Default A new wheel for Matthew

I'm contemplating buying a new wheel for Matthew's birthday as it seems to be one of his favourite things and I'm thinking about buying the Wodent Wheel for him.

Can anyone tell me how easy they are to clean as I'm sure anyone who has kept Chinese will know, their wheels can get a bit manky? He's currently got a 20cm Trixie wheel.

Similar to the trixie in that you pop the front cover off and wipe out the inside, I think if you get the mechanism wet it can make it a bit squeaky...that happened to my old one anyway but yeah, very similar in terms of cleaning

I have a senior rodent wheel that I got when I had Cleo - so bigger than you'd probably get for Matthew and personally, I find it a pain if tou just need to wipe down. I'd have it for a non-wheel-peeing Syrian but I wouldn't use it for Chinesey Lewis who uses his wheel like a litter tray. As a wheel I really like it. It's easy to oil the spindle when it's taken apart. There's a pin to hold the spindle in place and the front on and that can be a fiddle to get off. That means you can take the front off and the track then comes out too. So giving it a full clean is fine as you can easily get to all the bits but spot cleaning is a right pain.

I find Wodent Wheels can be a pain to remove and assemble - but it's manageable and you get the hang of it after a while. When I used them, I soaked them in water, then scrubbed, then tucked them back together.

Thanks all.

Matthew probably has the mankiest wheel out of any hamster I've ever known and I think it's because he often likes to put a snack in there too so one that's relativel easy to wipe down is a necessity. It's a shame that none of the shops near me have them in store so I can have a look at one, they tend to be the Silent Spinners in the shops around here.

Sounds like someone I know

For ease of cleaning I don't think you can beat the silent runner really, it's so easy to take apart & put back together it doesn't take me long even when I'm doing all four! No fiddly bits like the wodent wheel & you only have to take care not to get the ball bearings wet which isn't difficult.
Quite an investment & a bit bigger than other wheels but worth thinking about.

It's one I'm considering for him too as he uses his wheel so much (the complete opposite to Lord James). He's a pretty solid lad so something of a better quality might be worthwhile investment for him.
