Depends on the dog to be honest.. My syrian Treacle happily coinsides with a westie....to the point where they can touch noses and Treacle has had kisses too :P
I currently have a Gabber Rex but it may be near impossible to get one nowadays, the savic cambridge gets good reviews and I can recomend an imac fantasy as the doors are sturdy but a determined dog might be able to get through the softer plastic floors......not sure if this is any help!

Good luck cage hunting!

I would go with a tank type cage like a Duna Multy where the 'sniffing zone ' is limited. No matter how secure the cage though you will need to keep the dog away from it especially when unsupervised as a dog would soon scrabble into a cage if it wanted. It would also be stressful to the hammy being constantly sniffed.
We have a dog but keep the hamsters in a locked room. He does sometimes come in for a look and is very interested and sniffy over the cages. He likes to steal their treats too

we have a lot of duna style cages and ferplast rainbows for syrians
dogs stay out of hamster room though sometimes have been known to have a sniff of a ball I am always wary as once our retriever pushed a ball out the patio dooors into the garden and we were lucky he never got out

def go for a good deep base or duna for a syrian and always keep out of dog's reach

I think a tank cage, highish up is a good idea. Im lucky i have a bar cage which goes on the floor its really big ( i did have plastics ones - dont go there ) and my jackrussell, ignores my hammy, and my cat, she just looks, sniffs, sleeps. My dog goes up to the cage and they both sniff, but he's never barked, or anything.
