Question Detolf cage?

I'm planning on getting Detolf for my Ham Ham and I'v noticed its most of times put on top of something else. Is that necessary or could I set it up on the floor instead of like a bookshelf thing.

Keeping a hamster on the floor is far from ideal, it's better to have it raised up on something if you can.

The detolf would be better up of the ground. Lots of people use the Ikea Kallax unit(s) underneath.

It raises the detolf off the floor and gives good storage (possibly for hamster toys, food etc)

I've seen it on the floor a couple of times, however, it is a risk. I would really not advise it especially if you have other pets like cats/dogs or if your hamster is kept in a busy room.

As mentioned above the Ikea Kallax units are perfect to hold it up

The location doesn't really matter unless you have other pets. If you have cats, dogs, or rabbits (although they shouldn't be in the room anyways), then it should be kept on a shelf. I've kept cages on the floor before with no problem, but I definitely prefer them on shelves
