Suitable for dwarf hamsters?
I purchased this coconut hideaway for my Russian dwarf hamster Kiwi :
http://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pe...ideaway-ladder
Kiwi arrived yesterday and she hasn't yet been up there. I laid a dandelion leaf up there and she's explored every other aspect of the cage and eaten the dandelion leaf. But not the one in the coconut.
My question is : can she climb up? Is there anything I can do to make it easier to climb?

Re: Suitable for dwarf hamsters?
Open ladders of any sort aren't really suitable, you could try removing the ladder & put a bendy bridge (kind of like an arch) below it so she can climb up & down on that, don't put anything too high up for a dwarf as they are so good at falling off things!

Ok thanks, I heard about the open ladders not being suitable.

Re: Suitable for dwarf hamsters?
The ladder rungs are too smooth and wide for her to grip onto properly. Russians aren't very good climbers because their paws are covered in fur on both sides. As Cypher said, they're also dangerous as they can get caught between the rungs.
The bendy bridge idea sounds like it would work well (though if the coconut moves around too much, she might not use it still), or you could remove the hanging part as well as the ladder and just have the coconut on the ground.
