Are bird toys safe for hamsters?
I recently found some interesting bird toys in online pet shop and I'm wondering whether they are safe for hammies? They look like they could be interesting for Marti to use but I'd like to make sure that there are no ingredients that are safe for birds but not for hammies.

Re: Are bird toys safe for hamsters?
Some bird toys are safe while others aren't. There isn't really a yes or no answer to this in All honesty. Some hamster toys aren't even safe for hamsters so it really has to do with each particular toy. Some things to remember is that the toy should
-not have chains, fabric, or rope
-be made of hamster safe wood/materials
-shouldn't have gaps or ladders
If you have a specific toy in mind, share it and we can help you out

As Drago said some are & some aren't, post some links so we can have a look at them.

Re: Are bird toys safe for hamsters?
I haven't chosen the exact ones I would buy, but here are the ones I was thinking about...
My Marti likes climbing stuff, so I thought these could work both for climbing and chewing.
Also, since not all hamster toys are safe and there should not be ropes and ladders, is this thing safe or not: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hammock-Pla...s=Hamster+toys

Re: Are bird toys safe for hamsters?
That hammock thing on Amazon definitely isn't safe.
The first two bird toys might be ok, it does depend on what kind of string is used in case it gets chewed & ingested or caught around little feet, the third, netting thing I would say definitely no, same goes for the fourth, both look like traps for feet which could cause a nasty accident, the last one might be ok although I'm not really sure if a ham would use it.

Re: Are bird toys safe for hamsters?
Oh, thank you! I'll make sure to find out more about them before purchasing. What kind of string is safe for hamsters?

Re: Are bird toys safe for hamsters?
Sisal, hemp, and seagrass string are all examples are safe materials you can use. Avoid anything else as it generally isn't able to be consumed and can get caught on limbs

Okay, I'll write it down for further notice! Thank you so much!
Any advice on which toys Syrians usually like? Marti seems to ignore most of her toys and I'm worried that she'll get bored.

Every Syrian is going to be different in which toys they like. In all the Syrians I've owned, each have liked different things.
Remi loved simple things, cardboard and her wheel were her all time favorite toys
Chance loved wooden chews (odd ham, I know) so I'd buy him a huge variety of those
Spider's favorite thing to do was burrow, so I added in lots of bedding
Duncan loves all things straw. Straw huts, straw bundles, and straw balls
I'd recommend buying a variety of toys for your hamster until you find what she likes. Buying cork, seagrass, Timothy, bamboo, loofah, and cholla tunnels will all provide chewing, hiding, and climbing areas. Popsicle/lolli stick platforms or premade platforms are also great things to add. A variety of chews like apple, willow, and pine sticks as well as chew blocks/shapes and whimzees are all excellent things to have in your cage. Add lots of deep bedding to see if she's a burrower. Lastly, you can absolutely never go wrong with just a plain old cardboard box

Re: Are bird toys safe for hamsters?
Thank you for the advice! I gave Marti cardboard box yesterday and she seemed to enjoy climbing inside and tearing bits out if it. I'll try everything you said and see what kind of toys she prefers!
