New detolf and wheel
Hi everyone.
So I upgraded my girl into a detolf yesterday. I have a 28cm trixie wheel at one end, but i cant have any substrate under it otherwise it pushes the lid off at that end. I placed it on the glass and then put a bit of fitch around it to cover the glass. Problem is, while Khali is clearly enjoying having a big wheel again by going 100 miles and hour, its rather noisy when she is running a marathon as it rattles on the glass.
Does anyone have any ideas how I could reduce the noise or tips what they have done if you have the detolf? I was thinking of putting sand in that area, but would the sand get out of the joints?

Re: New detolf and wheel
Hey, not sure what you mean as when I had my detolf and 11" trixie wheel it didn't make a lot of noise on the glass. Well maybe you could get a chew n' play mat or something like that to place the wheel on top to see if that helps. I know they sell them online, if you want I'll get a link. Or maybe move it so its flat along the back because that's how I had mine set up.

Re: New detolf and wheel
If I put anything under it, it will have to be REALLY thin. Otherwise it will raise it too high and affect the lid. My lid sits on the metal bars along the top. I cant get it flat against the side as there is a thing on the back that connects it to bars. I dont think it comes off

Re: New detolf and wheel
Ah well that explains it as mine sat against the glass at the top, well maybe you could put some rocks/something heavy over the bottom of the wheel to stop it from rattling. See if that fixes it.

Re: New detolf and wheel
I generally put sand under the wheel as it gives them a nice big sand area and makes it a lot more stable. I think this would stop the wheel wobbling and bashing against the glass. I doubt the sand would get out as I've never had any problems with sand slipping through the gaps on my cage. You could use some aquarium sealent though, if you felt it was a major issue.

Re: New detolf and wheel
I don't know if you can see it well in this photo
But I was having problems too with the sound that the stand wheel was making against the wood, so I cut a piece of cardboard and I attached the wheel to the cardboard with popsicle sticks, they make like a rail, so I can remove the wheel if I want (for example for cleaning purposes), but they are tight enough to stick the wheel to the cardboard. The thing is that this way the cardboard absorbs all the noise that was making before, and it helps to keep the wheel still in the exact same place too.
