Water bottle in a tank???
Hey guys, update on Cashmere she's doing well turns out her bedding was really dusty, she's now in a bigger tank and in better bedding
So her tank is pretty good height however with the bedding (3in) I find that most water bottles are too big, for now shed be ok but because she's not fully an adult in a few months the water bottle will be too long to where she'd need to get in an awkward position to drink. So i went out and got her a smaller water bottle, this bottle has no guard nor can i buy one because its just so small. It is round by the way. Ive tried picture hanging strips but it falls after a few taps. What should I do to hang it?

Re: Water bottle in a tank???
Industrial strength velcro is the best thing for hanging bottles in tanks.
3 inches is very shallow for any species Even with dwarf hamsters you want 6 inches of substrate depth,if not 12 inches+ regardless of species.
Don't feel like you need a bottle guard. The majority are either impractical or unsafe(metal ones are never safe, they pose a serious risk for injury which could lead to bumblefoot).
What species of hamster is in the tank and what size?It may be "bigger" but depending on species it might not be big enough, even if she is a younger hamster.

Re: Water bottle in a tank???
I use the water bottles that hang in their tanks but the velcro idea Amity suggested sounds like it would work well (just make sure the hamster can't reach the velcro).

Re: Water bottle in a tank???
I used to have a Kaytee glass water bottle stuck to the glass tank with velcro, but that water bottle seemed to stop working so now to just make it easier I have put a water bowl in my hamster's cage! Maybe that could also be another option if you're worried?

Re: Water bottle in a tank???
this is the water bottle I have for my Syrian. I ordered it from USA so it took a while to get here it is in a metal gard and as her paws don't touch the metal guard I now feel safe that this is good for her.
please be aware that the Base of these metal guards can be pulled down by the hamster if they get to enthusiastic with the bottle. luckily for me penny just takes what she needs and then ignores it.
it took a while a while for me to find a good holder I started off with a tube purchased from pets at home and drilling a hole in it and standing it upright but she kept moving the substrate and buried the drinking pipe.
I didn't just buy this bottle and guard , it took me a couple of weeks to think about the dangers and hight, angle, etc I can only suggest to take time and think about your purchase, which I am sure you will do anyway.

Re: Water bottle in a tank???
OMG! Worldturns I live in the USA and bought that same one. It worked but I got my hamster a bin cage which was way bigger and used Velcro for all of it and a vertical strip of tape from the top to the bin and it works!
