Thumbs down Why is she bored ?

[/SIZE]
Hi I'm new to this forum and I have recently become a hamster owner again to a beautiful Syrian called Lady.
She needed no taming she's super friendly and I ensure I take her out everynight for ages but she still keeps trying to escape her box cage. I've upgraded her cage once from a pets at home cage that was too small and I know this box cage isn't massive but it's a huge improvement and I'm working on minim wage I can't afford a bigger box till the end of the month have you got any suggestions as to why she might be bored and how to prevent it on the cheap till I can afford better ? Every night I change her toys around and give her tasks like hiding treats I'm getting desperate I'd hate to stress her out

How old is she? Likely, the only reason she is bored is due to her wanting a larger enclosure, but this isn't necessary until you can afford it something you could do in the mean time would be to add cardboard boxes, mazes, and tunnels for some cheap throw away toys. Adding wooden huts, sisal, and seagrass tunnels will help entertain her and give something to chew on. Adding some "brain toys can help".

One brain toy is a toilet paper tube stuffed with tissues and with a few healthy treats such as sunflower seeds or cheerios and then cover the end with more tissue so she either needs to pull the tissues out or shred the tube. Another brain toy is a Starbucks or other recycled paper drink holder and flip this upside down and hide treats underneath so that they must flip the tray or chew through it to reach their favorite treats. Another thing to consider is that she is still relatively new so she could just take more time to settle in, before upgrading, give her a few more weeks to adjust. Best wishes

Hiding treats is a good occupier for Lady but I suggest you don't keep changing things around as this may be unsettling her in her new home. She needs to become familiar with her set up. On the cheap ideas ideas could be using any cardboard food box you have. Use biscuit/cracker boxes, cereal box, tea bag box etc. Cut holes in as entrances and even stick some together like a little maze. She may chew them but that won't matter. Use the toilet roll cardboard centre to put a treat in and fold up the ends and she can tear it apart. Things like this won't cost anything.

Thank you for your suggestions I think you're right I'll try and keep her layout similar but instead include cardboard mazes and treat hideouts thank you for your suggestions , I do keep forgetting she's still rather new because she's so friendly thank you both 😀X
