Default Wooden house mold?

Hi guys, my syrian has a wooden labyrinth house from rodipet and I noticed that the ceiling was getting dark specifically where she does her nest and where the toilet is, I thought it could be because of her breathing. And yesterday I noticed something like mold little black dots.
Toss it out today, clean her tank and put another labyrinth I had extra. Did any of you guys experienced this?

I've never had this particular hide, but any wood products that are left unsealed and exposed to moisture, will mold after time. This is why people will seal wooden houses and such and it's also why some people prefer plastic over wood (though wood is better and much more natural). My mind is completely blanking to the name of the product used to seal wood for hams as I've never used it and instead just replace all wooden products when they get damp or moldy, but perhaps someone who has used this product will come along and share about it.

I've never had any problems with our rodipet house, but it's plastikoted so wipes clean. That's probably the best option is to paint the new house with plastikote - it's petsafe and doesn't smell of anything.

Ah yes that's what I was thinking of, plastikote! I've always left my wood as is simply because I'm too lazy to add anything

Yes I bought something like that because she was peeing outside of the toilet, but I didn't had time to paint the new one before switching because of the weather it would take ages to dry.. But with the plastikote wouldn't be less air for her? Just because the wood is breathable and she is in her house most of the time just comes to play at 1h or 2h..

Plastikote would make the wood less breathable, but at the same time it wouldn't affect the ventilation in terms of air for your hamster

Plastikote only takes about 20 mins to dry for each coat, you need two or three really, then maybe a day to just air it a bit, the idea of plain wood is nice but unfortunately totally unpractical & once wood gets pee on it you can never get it out.

You could just paint the two inside walls in the area where your ham pees rather than the whole house, but I didn't have any breathability issues (but then I had the labyrinth house with a door on top as well as the front). I know what you mean - there are no specific air holes or windows in their houses, but air would get in through the door.

The labyrinth that I threw out had a door on the top, but she kept it closed with bedding and somedays the front one too.

I didn't want to plastikote it all because of her blocking the holes.

I'll see what she does in this new one, it has two doors on the side and one on top (that I keep closed with the food bowl) and the rooms are bigger. I think I know her behaviour now, let's see..
