Wooden house
Hi HC. Just wondering how to remove urine from wood? Our Ralph has peed a lot in his wooden house that's some times in his cage. We are unable to get the smell out as really soaked well into the wood We've not had this problem before -not sure how to fix it. We've sprayed pet safe disinfectant on the wood and left it a few days (please note wooden house is not in his cage). But it still smells...
Any advice appreciated! Plus want to learn what to do if this happens again
Don't really want to threw out this toy out but will if need to!
Thank you

Re: Wooden house
You can't get rid of urine once it has soaked into wood. Also, disinfectant would soak into the wood so it can't air out properly like other things can which makes it relatively unsafe even with supposedly pet safe disinfectants(even vinegar would be too strong for direct contact with pets)

Re: Wooden house
Pip has done the same to two wooden houses so far and ruined both, she is now nesting in temporary accommodation aka a cardboard box until I can acquire something more suitable..

Re: Wooden house
Maybe try a larger bendy bridge instead of a more enclosed wood house? That's what my Syrian has at the moment and it works very well for her!It would be extremely difficult for it to get urinated on,unlike something that is more enclosed.

Re: Wooden house
Thanks for your responses. I had a feeling the wooden house would need chucking out ! Safety comes first ! Ralph is currently using a large bendy bridge and seems to like this - it can air compared to the wooden house quite easily

Re: Wooden house
I don't know where you are but in the UK you can buy Plastikote paint which is ideal for painting the inside of wooden houses to pee proof them & make them easy to clean, if you can't get safe paint then wooden houses are best avoided & cardboard boxes are better if your ham likes something a bit more enclosed.
