Oh my gosh!
Dear all,
I don't tend to look for bargains that much but I am super happy!
I have just bought the Alexander cage for £50!!! It doesn't include a level but that why it is reduced and that can be fixed with some DIY I am so happy I got it for half price, would it be suitable for a Campbell's Russian Dwarf with the 1cm bar spacing?
I am so happy, is this a good bargain?

Re: Oh my gosh!
It's a great cage ... Not sure how good it is for a dwarf though as it's quite high!

Re: Oh my gosh!
It can make a really good dwarf cage as long as you set it up to prevent falls!

Re: Oh my gosh!
1cm bar spacing is fine for a Russian ham, you will have to think carefully about how you set it up to avoid falls as most enjoy bar climbing but have no clue how to get down once they've climbed up!

Re: Oh my gosh!
The Alexander has 7mm bar spacing According to people who have one. Even though it's described as having 1cm bar spacing. I believe there are a couple of areas (at the sides probably) where it is nearer 1cm, and on my Barney cage the top bar on the small bars is about 1cm. But it would be fine for a dwarf hammy if set up to prevent falls.
I reckon there are a couple of options to do that. Either put levels in, as you said, or put cardboard round the inside bars near the base (maybe up to the height of the bottom of the front doors) and have and extra 2 to 3" of substrate - thus reducing the height and also giving lots of substrate for tunneling.
That might be a bit faffy though. I think there's another alternative dwarf set up on this page - see bottom photo. A couple of levels one at each side, quite low down, and substrate piled up in the middle.
