Default Aubiose Alternative

Because i can't get hold of either Aubiose or Megazorb anywhere locally i've been looking for alternatives. This morning while shopping in a local farm shop i cam across a horse bedding called Bliss Bedding. Looks quite similar to Aubiose and it's the same price but i just need advice if it would be an ideal alternative

Here's a link to their website.

I wouldn`t buy it as two of the products in the link say `eucalyptus` or `citronella`, which will be added to the bedding to stop flies and insects from laying eggs in it. Both of these will be insect repellents and are not suitable for small animals. It doesn`t actually say what the bedding is made of? Is it actually Hemp or something else? It just said `biodegradable`. Most farm shops should be able to get Aubiose or other hemp substitutes as it`s used for horses.

I`ve just googled `Bliss Bedding` and it`s a chopped straw. Even the plain one is sprayed with something so I wouldn`t use it. Straw in any shape or form can pierce the pouches of hamsters. Aubiose can be bought here delivered: Pet Supplies, Food, Products & Accessories | Dogs, Cats, Birds | GJW Titmuss

Worth every penny and last ages.

Thanks ever so much for noticing this racinghamster

Bliss Bedding is definitely off the list, guess i'll have to bite the bullet and purchase it online. Thanks for the link as well

No problem. Hemp bedding is really good and once you buy it, you won`t go back to anything else! I know it`s a little pricier when bought online (shame you can`t source any locally) but paying that bit more to have the right substrate is really worth it. I have to order it online aswell but I spot clean my cages so a 20kg sack of Aubiose lasts me a long time! Zooplus.co.uk also sell hemp. Siccofloor (organic) and Hugro. Either would do you well if you wanted the smaller bags to try.

Hi,

I realise this is an old thread, but I'm new to this whole forum thing and assumed it's better to tag onto an old thread than create a new one? Let me know if not!

Anyway, I'm thinking of buying some aubiose in preparation for the arrival of my daughter's syrian hamster. Just wondered if anyone has tried Easychick? (Afraid as a new forum user I can't link to it, but easy to find on Google).

I already use it for my chickens and love it, but not sure how suitable it is for hamsters as they're not listed in the Small Animals section of the Easychick website. Obviously I'd rather just have one enormous sack of bedding to store for both, so any feedback would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
