Hammock? Or other ideas
I've been setting up my stacked bin cages for a new dwarf hamster that i'm planning on getting and I've discovered what may be a problem. I'm rubbish at explaining these things but please stick with me.
Inside the bottom bin is a tube that connects the two stacked bins together. This tube is at roughly a 45 degree angle and gets very high and I just know my hammy will try and climb up on it rather than inside it and I'm worried they'll fall and hurt themselves.
So far i've tried my best to prevent them climbing on the tube by cutting a hole in some hammy friendly wood and fixing it into the cage with just the entrance to the tube poking through the hole. This should stop them climbing it but I'm worried they'll find another way around this barrier. Any ideas on how to break their fall if they do? I'm thinking of maybe a hanging a hammock or something similar under the tube just in case?
Does anyone else have any better ideas?
If hammocks are the way to go does anyone know of any good suppliers?

Re: Hammock? Or other ideas
You would need to make sure there was nothing but a good layer of substrate to fall on just in case, nothing hard, hammocks can work but not always ideal, with fleece hammocks you need to be sure your ham won't chew them before putting them in the cage as you really don't want the ham to ingest any of the fabric, you can get woven grass mats which are ok to chew but chewing could result in a fall so neither would be the perfect answer really.
It's hard to imagine what would work best, do you have a photo?
Suppliers for hammocks or mats would depend where you are?

Re: Hammock? Or other ideas
Agree with what Cypher says Personally I think it would be better to have one larger bin cage than two connected by a tube, so they can access everything in one area kind of, and tubes are for toys rather than access.
