Yes the rodipet one is expensive unfortunately. The Eco Habitat is amazing. I'd want to mesh the top if I had one, to prevent escapes. The Rodipet one fills a bit of a gap in whats available and is simple and easy and a good size - I do think it looks weird though!

Yes, if you want to use the original lid it does have to be cut out more and meshed and you obviously have to varnish the bottom and put L-sections onto the corner pieces (I used aquarium silicone). Some people cover the holes, but in my case the well-behaved little girl leaves them alone, so I see no need.
After that, it's perfect - and cheap, considering the plexiglass.
