I can't recommend DIY projects enough then!There are lots of ideas,like wood and dowels as mentioned previously or even the Ikea Knuff's as platforms.

I've seen the Knuff's used as platforms and am definitely considering those. They look like a lot of fun to experiment and fiddle 'round with.

I have a Knuff shelf and it's a really great level. I am looking to add a lolly stick border but not yet. Since it's so low (mines half buried) it's not really necessary but can add to the look. Good luck with your cage - sounds like it's gonna be huge.
