Re: The Alaska Cage
The Hamster Heaven is £59.99 on Zooplus - which is a lot cheaper than £90 for the Mickey 2XL which is virtually identical, but still not cheap and a lot of what you pay for are the tubes and extra plastic bits which many people end up removing and blocking off the top tubes (although you can use them as in-cage floor toys). It is a great cage though and well made, and if you check on ebay and gumtree in your area there are often used ones for sale.
Savic Hamster Heaven Metro Cage | Great deals at zooplus!
I had forgotten about the Grosvenor cage - that is also reasonably low. Seems to have gone up in price though. It's usually less than £50 and currently over £53. One thing I would say though, is the dimensions of the Grosvenor are very close to the dimensions of the duna multy, and also with top opening the same, so as the others say, some comes down to whether you prefer a barred cage or a tank style. What kind of cage is your hammy in now? Barred or perspex?

I think some hamsters feel more secure in a tank style cage, but it can depend on their personalities a bit. There is certainly less of a fall risk with a duna multy and they would be easier to set up safely. Ventilation is fine providing there is enough depth of bedding (ie so everything is nearer the top!).
If your hamster seems very active and confident then something like the Alaska cage or Hamster Heaven would give more scope for activity and lots of hidey places and levels - but would take a bit of thinking about when setting up - although we can help with that! If your hamster seems a bit shy or chews the bars then the tank style duna multy might be more suitable. But they are all good cages and will fit an 8" wheel easily.
I am not sure what I would go for as I haven't had dwarf hamsters - we have a Syrian. I do prefer barred cages for our Syrian as I can attach so many things to the bars which makes it interesting. But I think I would worry about fall risks with a dwarf hamster in a cage unless it had a full level for example.

at the minute she's in a smaller cage and its Perspex with bars on top with some external tubes its not really suitable for her but I was told a smaller cage would make her feel more safe xx

If like velma you have other animals like cats or dogs then tanks are worth considering, they're also useful if you have a very determined bar climber although the one I had that really liked to climb bars was fine in a cage of a similar height to the Hamster Heaven carefully set up.
Like flowerfairy I prefer barred cages for the interaction it allows, ventilation & I find it much easier to arrange a nice set up for them in a barred cage than I do in a tank style cage.
I find very little substrate gets kicked out with bar spacing of 1cm or less, virtually none with Russian hams & not that much even with my determined Chinese diggers!
If you do decide to go for a barred cage the Alaska would be ok but you do have to put quite a lot of thought into your set up, if your budget would stretch to it do give some consideration to the Hamster Heaven which would be easier to keep safe.
Your ham is only just beginning to settle in so I wouldn't be in to much of a rush if you have her in something that is adequate short term, they can settle quicker & be easier to tame in a smaller cage then you can make your final decision once you get to know her & her needs a little better.

the only problem with tank style cages is I think they would feel like I'm a predator as if I wanted to do anything I would have to put my hand down in the cage so I'm abit wary of that xx

Re: The Alaska Cage
Serendipity I've only had one (little mischief Zen) ever chew bars & that was really short lived so not something I really consider with choosing cages for mine.
When I first started thinking about getting dwarf hams I got really paranoid about things like escapes, falls & all the ways they might hurt themselves but really once you've kept them for a while you realise it really isn't that hard or complicated!
mylittlefluffyhamster she probably will feel safer in the smaller cage for now especially if she's had a bit of a rough start, maybe kept in a small cage anyway & then in the little tank in the shop.

Re: The Alaska Cage
That's a mini duna. It's about 55cm long. (It's one size down from a duna multy.) I had Hector my robo in one as he didn't like large spaces and I've recently moved my Chinese ham Lewis into one as I think he's better in a smaller space too.

Re: The Alaska Cage
I have one too which I keep in case I need a hospital cage & I'm sure it will be fine while your nervous little girl settles in & gets to know you.

Re: The Alaska Cage
If she's in a perspex cage now then a Duna Multy might be a better option than the Alaska as it's a familiar type of cage. Because it has such a big door on top, you can put your arm in at an angle, so it's not quite like coming directly from above If that makes sense. How long has she been in her current cage? As the others say, it might be good to let her settle a bit before changing it, but depends how active she is maybe. When moving a hamster to a new cage you can sometimes put the whole base of the old cage inside the new one and surround it with new substrate and other new toys etc, so it feels familiar and she can explore out from the current cage base.

Re: The Alaska Cage
She's only been in there a couple of days I think Serendipity.
I don't think being in that kind of cage now makes much difference really, most of our pet shop hams come from being in glass tanks & going into a barred cage doesn't really seem to bother them, mine actually seem to enjoy the new experience!

Re: The Alaska Cage
Good point A few days isn't long- maybe a couple of weeks. You might end up needing to toss a coin! Alaska or Duna Multy - or just suddenly find a cheap used hamster heaven
