Re: Hamster wheel with nail trimming track
I think there's a big difference in nail growth between syrians & some of the dwarf species, they do seem to grow much longer & an awful lot faster!
I've had granite slabs & or granite top houses in most of my cages along with resin & terracotta, does it make a difference... I wish lol!
If you can find a good vet ShanRICK they should be able to trim them easily enough even though your ham isn't tame, if you decide to try & do it yourself it definitely helps to have an extra pair of hands to help.

Re: Hamster wheel with nail trimming track
I use the 8 in Wodent Wheel sandy tracks one night every other week for my robos and then my 2 Russians get the Silent Runner sandy track every other week for one night as well. This seems to work perfectly except as the hams are getting older they are not running as much.

Re: Hamster wheel with nail trimming track
I got one of those horrible wire mesh wheels and attached a piece of fine sandpaper.
I only put it in one of my cages for a little while and remove it as soon as they start to try to chew on it or lose interest.
I never leave it in an enclosure for more than half an hour and I won't put it in more than once a month.
Works like a charm for me and my hamsters. They run like mad on their regular wheels the rest of the time.

Re: Hamster wheel with nail trimming track
Thanks for all the advise! I took Maus to the vets to get his nails trimmed so they are all nicely and short. Luckily even thought he's not that tame he stayed nice and still in my hands while the vet clipped his nails. I think next time I won't have a problem doing it at home with someone else to give me a hand.
It was quite funny when the vet found out he was a roborovski she was like "oh no this is gonna be very difficult." She even said they might needed to give him gas to put him to sleep but I thought that wasn't necessary. I think in the end she was also surprised how quick and easy it was.
