Default PetUK Eco Bedding?

So recently I've been looking for a new bedding - partly because I ran out of Fitch and partly because Willow started getting really stinky on the Fitch!

I did some browsing and found this bedding: PetUK Eco-Bedding 3.2kg - From £2.92

It's from VetUK and is meant to be like Finacard, which I'd get if RatRations shipping wasn't so expensive.

It's £2.92 for a 3.2kg bag - meaning that I could get 16kg of it for £14.60 - so about the same value for money as Fitch, if not better

It's also meant to be 90% dust free which is essentially what I'm looking for. Being a cardboard bedding, it also won't tangle in her tufty coat

Has anyone on here tried this or Finacard. If so, what are your opinions of it?

Mmm. Haven't tried it. Looking at it, I reckon Finacard might be better - they are larger pieces. The petUK bedding is in kind of shreds or strips and I'd be worried the edges might be an issue (paper cuts I mean if the edges are a bit sharp) - but it's hard to tell. I sent for a small bag of Finacard a while back when I ran out of Fitch but haven't actually used it as the Fitch arrived the day after or something. The cardboard is quite soft in the Finacard, but being cardboard and the pieces flatter it felt a bit 'hard' somehow compared to Fitch. I wouldn't have thought cardboard would make much difference to paper in terms of stinkiness! Does Willow not use a potty?

No, every time I put one in her pee corner she starts peeing somewhere else.

I use 'Bio-Catolet Recycled Paper Non Clumping Recycled Paper Cat Litter' from pets@home. It works really well, is dust free and keeps clean for ages.

I used it once! I liked it, but it was a long time ago so I don't remember much about it. Could you get the smallest bag and put it in part of the cage to try maybe? I am not liking Finacard anymore Sweep doesn't like it because he can't dig in it but it's not as soft as it used to be! I also found it quite dusty!

The smallest bag they do is the 3.2kg, although it only costs about £3 so I might as well get that

Have you thought about buying direct from Finacard? It's what I do, even if I'm ordering from RatRations as well I always order direct

Anyway I use Finacard for all of my hams, (although some have tumblefresh at the moment as I was trying it out), even mums with pups, and I don't have any problems with it. The bales are quite compressed so they go a long way, my hams have had no issues digging through it and building huge nests with it and the tissue I also give them. Not had any issues with dust and all the hams seem really happy on it. I've tried most substrates and Finacard definitely seems to be the best for both me and the hams

I forgot you could order Finacard from their website lol! Good to know it's good for burrowing

I have a bag of this that I use from time to time. It's no good for burrowing and my Robo couldn't even walk on it, but I quite like it for my Syrian. It's very good at odour control and lasts much longer in the cage than woodshavings. Also Rupert doesn't like peeing on it, meaning he will use his sand tray, which makes spot-cleans so much easier (when on woodshavings he will pee in two different corners and his nest too!).

I've never used Finacard so can't compare but the Eco Bedding is quite soft, I personally don't think there is the risk of papercuts, it doesn't feel like that kind of card if you know what I mean.

Only reason I do not use it more often is that it makes then cage exceptionally heavy (not that I move the cage much, but it's difficult come clean out day!) and Rupert does prefer woodshavings, so I mix it up a bit for him.

This pic shows the texture a bit better.

That's interesting to know, I was aiming at using it for Willow but I wasn't really going to use it for the robos as they're big borrowers
