Billy Cage
Hello,
So from my last post you cans see that I am considering the Billy Cage for Nutmeg as it is portable. Has anybody got the Billy Cage? If so what are the measurements? Is it portable? What are the pros and cons? What is the square inch measurement? Finally is it good for a hamster?
I know it is under the European Cage size limit (excluding Germany) is this ok?

Re: Billy Cage
This video from Erin's Animals shows how to put it together, but in the description box it says : The cage measurements are 80x35cm or 434sq inches. She also says the largest wheel that fits in it is an 8" wheel. Would need a lid too - which she shows in the video how to make
I can't answer the rest of your questions though

Re: Billy Cage
Would it be suitable for a Campbell's Russian Dwarf do you think?

Re: Billy Cage
It is about half the size of the Detolf so would be a big (maybe stressful) change for her if she is using all of the space in the Detolf)
Usually the Billy cages are used as cages for life (so from when you get the ham to when it passes) or when elderly hams' larger cages take up unnecessary space

Re: Billy Cage
Nutmeg was only in half of the detolf and is going to be in two Billy Cages, so they are the length of the detolf, the Billy will be her permanent cage I have the Billy cage and have constructed it. I can't split the detolf sadly.

Re: Billy Cage
I would love to see photos of your setup. I am thinking of doing the same thing (Ikea Billy hack). I am trying to figure out how to deal with hamster pee in the Ikea DIY habitat. Mine is a wheel pee-er. Any suggestions?

Re: Billy Cage
Nutmeg lives to pee on the wheel, I tend to let her do it, I just clean the wheel before it gets too dirty If you don't want her to pee in the wheel I suggest litter training them There is a video on this on ErinsAnimals channel
