Pet safe paint?
I found a cage I'm interested in, with a plastic bottom. Is there such a thing as pet safe paint for plastic? I'd like to change the color of the base. I'm in the US, if anyone has brands to suggest. Thanks!

Re: Pet safe paint?
Not sure about US brands sorry, but plastic usually needs a primer before you can paint it or the paint just peels off so I'm not sure you'd find both that are pet safe & paint on plastic would be very easy to chew off so you would need to be totally sure.

If it's outside only, you could wrap some coloured paper around the base and that way, if you need to change it, it will be quick and easy

Re: Pet safe paint?
Sounds like a good idea Chesca! I have no idea if there is but do you know if there's an equivalent to Plastikote/Cuprinol? Those seem to be popular UK brands
An idea would be to maybe make a vegetable dye?! Not sure if it works on plastic though and you'd have to make a lot!
Sorry to not be very helpful, I'm sure a US member will come along soon and help you though

Re: Pet safe paint?
Not sure if the vegetable dye would work, but it might be staining and messy. We have soy paint here in the US,but as mentioned it would be easy to chew off.If there is a nontoxic water based coating that works on plastic without primer, that could be good to look into, but other than that I think it would be safest to use colored paper and wrap it with packaging tape on the outside of the cage only where it can't be chewed.
Another idea is duct tape, but only on the outside of the cage of course with the same precautions as paper!Anything along the lines of duct tape would be okay as long as the hamster does not have access to the tape or paper or whatever you end up using Just thought of this as well, but wrapping paper would be another idea as well!
