You need to look at things like guinea pig houses as the ones sold for hams are generally too small the ferplast guinea pig house is quite popular as are the Rodipet labyrinth & granite houses if you're up to spending rather more!
I'm sure syrian owners will have more ideas than me but that might give you an idea of what to look for.

Cardboard boxes Cheap, easy to replace if you have a Syrian that likes peeing in their house, and fun to chew too. I use the cardboard boxes that cat food pouches come in, because we have cats and always have spare boxes, but would prefer to use something a bit larger. Shoe boxes also work well

Thats a great idea thank you! But,for any hamster this is, do they prefer huts that are compact or huts that have a lot of space? Bearing in mind they need to keep warn.

Hi - I would say a larger house or a cardboard shoebox house as well (a shoebox house is probably about the same size as a guinea pig house).

What kind of house does he have at the moment? Yes in winter they do like to build big nests to keep warm and sometimes they'll abandon a small house if they can't build a big nest in it and just build a big nest under a shelf or something.

The Ferplast guinea pig house is actually not very big - just big enough to be a hamster house probably, but not that big for a large nest. I had a different guinea pig house that was big enough, but ended up buying the Ferplast Sin rabbit house (which is about big enough for a guinea pig lol!).

But then it depends how much floorspace you have in your cage. Although a large flat roof house can double up as a platform, it also takes up a fair bit of floorspace in an 80cm cage (although it's good in a 100cm cage).

Our Syrian is also large and yes they do need large things sometimes. What does he do at the moment? That might help decide. ie what kind of house does he nest in? Does he have his hoards in there as well? Does he have a pee corner elsewhere or pee in his house?
