Re: Rearranging Alfie's Cage
I have hundreds of bendy bridges so that won't be a problem! I'm excited now thanks for your help!

Re: Rearranging Alfie's Cage
I'm sure he'll appreciate it
If it helps - this is what it looked like in my 80cm Savic cage, with the house sitting on the cage base and the substrate piled up around it - it means the house top is a couple of inches above the cage base and it's nice and stable. I only put a couple of inches of substrate in the bottom of it (to reduce the height a bit and make it comfy and Charlie filled it to the brim with Fitch lol - on that photo he had buried his potty - so I raised the potty by putting more Fitch under it.
With the potty raised a bit - although it was a bit too high there and he couldn't sit up in it so I got the height right eventually lol
This one shows how high it sits when it's on the cage base
Actually I really miss that house Charlie loves the new one as well but it's harder to get at him in the new one lol.

Re: Rearranging Alfie's Cage
That looks a really decent size, thanks Serendipity!
I might add something to the bottom to increase the height it can sit on the substrate and then Alfie can still get into his Sputnik from there, that or order a shelf for the back that can sit a bit higher... Hmm decisions!

Re: Rearranging Alfie's Cage
Lol - I know I went through that when I got the Barney cage which is about the same height as the Alaska - my old cage was lower. It would probably easier to have an extra shelf. On the other hand if you raised it on legs he could burrow down under it or tunnel into it. Charlie does that at the moment in his raised leg house, but I have to say it's a pain finding him sometimes lol. And finding what he has buried down there. I preferred the rabbit house on the floor of the cage. You would definitely have room for another shelf over it, or partly over it so you can still access the roof easily. A couple of corner shelves maybe?

Re: Rearranging Alfie's Cage
I'll have to have a play around when it all arrives I think he's due a clean out soon anyway and I'm thinking of ordering a bundle of Fitch instead of using shavings, I was mixing it with Carefresh but it's just too expensive to use :/ Alfie doesn't really burrow, he's dug one tunnel since I've got him so I wouldn't be too worried about that

Re: Rearranging Alfie's Cage
I'd just stick it on the floor of the cage then You can always add other shelves afterwards.

Re: Rearranging Alfie's Cage
Fitch is on order, I've spent a fortune on him this weekend! My partner is going to go nuts if he finds out how much I've spent

Re: Rearranging Alfie's Cage
I got him a ledge today and the plastikote arrived so it's now a lovely shade of sky blue
Everything except the wheel attachment has been dispatched but I remember the wheel arriving quickly and I don't think they sent a dispatch notice so hopefully most of ot will arrive tomorrow so I can plastikote the house ready for Thursday's clean out, if not it'll have to wait until next week

Re: Rearranging Alfie's Cage
Ooh I like that sky blue shelf. I'm sure Alfred will too. Is the house going to be the same colour? I think my other half would go nuts if he knew how much I'd spent on Charlie sometimes. I just remind him he spends money on his hobbies too and lots of tools for diy that never gets finished lol.

Re: Rearranging Alfie's Cage
Yeah the house is going to be the same blue I thought I'd give him something a bit more masculine than his pink Sputnik
The Fitch arrived today so I've put some in areas of his cage to get it smelling familiar because I'm planning on a complete substrate change as he's been scratching a lot recently and I'm worried he's developing an allergy to his shavings which is my main reason for the change :/
He actually said that he didn't mind me spending the money! And was pleased I was being a responsible owner it's not really unnecessary spending apart from the wheel attachment as he desperately needs a new house and with the plastikote I hopefully won't need to replace it again unless Alfie decides to try and chew it to pieces!
