Connecting Cages?
Hello Everyone!
Brand new here but not new to having hamsters, I owned a fancy bear growing up and he lived for 6 years before passing away when I was in college. We now own 3 Syrian Hamsters, all female. My husband and I built a multi level shelving for the 3 cages and wanted to connect them so the hamsters could go between them and visit one another (They were all in the same cage when we bought them from the pet store but have been separated for a while now). They each have their own sleeping space and dedicated cages but just wanted them to be connected. I read they can not be in the same cage but can the cages be connected without any issues?
Thanks!
T

Re: Connecting Cages?
Hi & welcome to the forum.
Not sure where you read that but it's really not the case.
Syrian hamsters are solitary animals & must be kept apart at all times, once pups are separated & begin to mature they can't be reintroduced, to do so would result in fights, serious injury or worse.

Re: Connecting Cages?
like cypher mentioned syrians are solitary animals, although they were together when they were in the pet shop does not mean that they should stay that way. Many people think that due to the fact that pet stores have hamsters together they are ok to live their lives like that forever, but instead it is only ok when they are young. Once they start to grow up they need to be alone so they dont fight as they are very territorial.

Re: Connecting Cages?
Thank you everyone My kids will be bummed they can't connect the cages but as long as our little furry friends are ok that is all that matters.
