Hi Mtinoc - I noticed you are in the United States. It's very hard to find a good sized cage there. A lot of people make bin cages. Your cage is a bit low as well as small - it is why he will be chewing the bars. Too low to be able to fit a Syrian sized wheel in - but a cage doesn't want to be too high either as then you can get fall risks or injuries. The usual options for Syrians in the US are:
1) Bin cage
2) 40 gallon breeder tank (Petco sell them for $40 when they have a dollar per gallon sale).
3) Detolf (Ikea detolf glass cabinet tipped on its side and the door left off. You need to make a lid out of wood and mesh). Costs $69 I think.
4) There are two cages I know that are good for a Syrian - but not cheap - one costs about $100 the other about $140.
If you are not a diy person then that leaves the 40 gallon tank or one of the cages (you can buy lids to fit a 40 gallon breeder).
These are the two cages. The second one needs the metal grid shelf taking out. They are both very good cages with good access for interacting with a hamster.
1) Marchioro Goran "82". You need the 82 size. Temporarily out of stock (it was in stock a couple of days ago).
Marchioro Products Marchioro Goran Rat Cage Small Pet Cages
2) https://www.amazon.com/Lixit-Animal-...xit+Mickey+2XL
Both have good floorspace area, a good deep base and will fit an 11" wheel. The Goran will fit a 12" wheel and is probably the better size of cage but they are both good. The Mickey 2XL will fit some 12" wheels but only just! No room for substrate under the wheel.
Alipali - agree with Cypher Your set up looks lovely. It's hard to see how much substrate but you have enough height in the tank to fill it to a third of substrate which will make the platform at a better level and give them a good depth to dig in. I would say 25cm of substrate if you can (ie 10 inches). Or at least 20cm (8 inches).

That's awesome, looks like their natural environment in the wild, I like how you have your wheel elevated on a solid platform. What material is that platform?

Thanks! & he's a syrian lol - sorry, shouldve mentioned that haha.
@cinnamon bear - the platform is from rodipet. It's made from birch wood

Figured I'd post my dwarfies cage while I'm at it. So this is Moscow's cage - she's a female sapphire winter white hybrid, and lives in the 2 x 4 IKEA Kallax hack. She has a deep burrowing area on the right side, but you can't see it that well because I didn't take an overview shot.
Anyways;

That looks wonderful too. Is that sand you have over in the left side? I see rodipet seem to be selling sand for substrate in two different colours, it looks interesting and I have often wondered how they would get on having lots of sand like that. Moscow must love it I'm not showing my boys your cages or they'll be on you door step looking to move in lol.

Re: Let's See Your Cages (May 2016)
Love Moscow's set up too, great to have all that space for the sand, I can imagine how much she must enjoy living in there!
BorisPasha the new "sand" Rodipet are selling is a reptile substrate, basically a damp mix or sand & clay, I'm really not sure how suitable or practical it would be for hams tbh.
