Default Cage

My friend uses wood shavings for her hamster cage. I use paper almost cottony stuff. She let me borrow some for my 4 week old hammy i got yesterday. And for bullet i use The paper. Which one is better??? I dont know if wither of these are unhealthy. The wood shavings are nicer to me they smell better then the paper. but i only want whats best for my little babies

For the wood shavings it is VERY important to be absolutely sure they are Kiln Dried as the oils that make the wood smell nice can be deadly to a hamster as untreated it is very toxic and will kill quickly. Kiln drying removes all the oils completely leaving wood bedding which is very safe.

Check the bag of your paper bedding and make sure it does not contain Baking Soda as if a Hamster ingest a small amount it can kill them.

If kiln dried and Baking soda free both products are safe but most Hamsters prefer the paper product bedding as it is easy for them to dig and burrow in.

You mentioned the paper bedding in another thread, have you found the name of it yet?
