Smile ZZ2 or Maxi Duna?

Hey guys I'm currently debating on whether to get the Maxi Duna Multy or Zoozone 2. I know they're the same size, but the ZZ2 is cheaper. However the Maxi Duna doesn't need meshing. I'm capable of meshing it, but really don't fancy doing it. Help!

I think I've heard people say that the lid on the zoozone is a bit of a pain to open. I think I'd rather pay more and get the maxi duna multy Porton Aquatics sell it cheaper than Amazon and I've always found them a reliable seller with quick delivery.

Thanks for the advice - but Porton Aquarium shipping is £20! I've found it on Miscota for £4 shipping and £68.95 so I'll order it from there

Crikey! Didn't realise that - I thought they did free delivery. You're right - it says oversized delivery is £19.95 and free delivery is only applicable to products specified.

The only thing with Miscota is they can sometimes take weeks to arrive. They come from Spain I think.

In that case it's cheaper on Amazon at £84 with free delivery.

Do you definitely want a tank style? You can get a 100cm Barney cage for less than £50.

A barney would be great yes but I've heard that the Alexander (the same make) has a flimsy base that hamsters can chew through so I'm guessing the Barney would as well. Willow is quite a big chewer and I've found that tank style cages in the past have had much more robust bases than traditional wire cages. Do you, or anyone else for that matter, have any experience with it? I'd be more than happy to buy it if I could be sure that willow couldn't easily chew through it.

I haven't seen the Alexander. I guess if a hamster is going to chew through a base they will do it. I've seen Zoozones and Duna Multy's with holes chewed through the base as well (photos that is). In that case it would need to be a glass tank. Some people have even had hamsters chew the inner bars and end wood pieces of a detolf.

If Willow is definitely a chewer I would try and go with a glass tank. Tricky as they are so expensive unless you can find a used 4 foot fish tank on ebay.

Or for a cheaper option, a detolf and be prepared to take the bars out if necessary (which would mean siliconing the glass panels into a tank) and meshing inside the wood end pieces - which to me sounds like too much hassle.

What does Willow chew most at the moment? Wood? Bars? Plastic? And what kind of cage is she in at the moment?

I just checked out your video of Willow She looks a real character lol. Looks like she is in a cage at the moment, so I'm guessing it's bar chewing that's making you think of a tank is that right? So if she isn't chewing the plastic base of her current cage, I shouldn't worry about that too much. The bar chewing could be if the cage is too small. I wouldn't call my Barney cage base flimsy, but it isn't quite as thick as the Savic one I had.

They can still chew at the bars on the roof of a Maxi Duna or Zoozone as well, but a Maxi Duna does sound like a good option. When they're in a bigger cage with levels though, like the Alexander or Barney, there is so much space for enrichment in there that it's much less likely she would bar chew. Plus the bars are narrow ones and not so easy to chew, which helps. Our Syrian only did it twice and both times he was under stress. The first time his cage was too small, the second time he'd had a change of environment after we'd been on holiday. So more enrichment = less stress.

But a Duna Maxi is maybe a good choice if you are worried bar chewing may continue. At least there are less bars and not so easy to chew on the roof.
