Wheel vs Saucer?
Hello. I would like to see everyone's opinions on a wheel vs Saucer for a dwarf hamster. She has had a saucer and a kaytee silent spinner. She seemed to hate the spinner. Should I keep trying with spinners or just let her be?

Re: Wheel vs Saucer?
I would say just keep both,or take out the saucer.Flying saucers have the chance to cause arching in a different way which isn't comfortable, regardless of what one you get, because they are all shaped the same and also it is far less natural to be running on a flying saucer with the odd curvature it gives.

Re: Wheel vs Saucer?
I agree with amityvilleHams, personally I don't like the ideas of the saucers because they can cause hamsters to run in a unnatural position and there is a chance you hamster was get flung of if she stopped suddenly. Also saucers take up more space in the cage, unlike a wheel. However if your hamster prefers the saucer I would keep it in but monitor your hamster, to prevent injuries. But I know people who prefer saucers to wheels I think it's a matter of preference but I have never had one myself.

Re: Wheel vs Saucer?
I have had both the flying saucer & the SS in the Russians cage. Took out the SS & put in the Silent Runner 9 in (exotic nutrition), which is a winner over here! Both boys Russians love the S Runners & next place the flying saucer.
My robo has a 8 in Wodent Wheel & a flying saucer & I'd have to say she likes the saucer a little bit better. She still pees all over both of them every night though.
I like the saucers but also agree that it should be in addition to a stand up wheel.
Didn't know any different with my elderly WW as she had a flying saucer her whole life cause I didn't think she liked the SS. She really didn't at the time but recently I put a 8 in Wodent Wheel in her cage too & she prefers the W wheel by far. Think the Wodent Wheel has a wider/flatter running track. It's definitely worth it if you can order a Silent Runner #1, then Wodent Wheel #2, Silent Spinner I don't like anymore compared to the new wheels & the flying saucer as an add on.
That's my experience over here...

Re: Wheel vs Saucer?
Many people say that the Saucer is quiet but I've bought a saucer for my dwarf and the saucer is squeaking really bad. My trixie wheel is totally quiet, I reccomend that one!

You can spray with olive oil to stop squeaking, have to do it again once the squeaking starts back up.
Not all saucers squeak, I've only had one so far squeak after months of use

Re: Wheel vs Saucer?
In the US would be either a Silent Spinner or Comfort Wheel in terms of commonly available wheels, and I'd say at least an 8 inch diameter.
