Default Need Inspiration...

Hellon everyone. I have my Syrian Hamster in the Alaska cage from zooplus. However she seems to get so bored in there now. Spends more time bar chewing than anything else.

I was wondering if anyone had pictures of their alaska cages or any cage set ups that I can gather some inspiration from.

I've done a Google search but thought it would be nice to ask on here too. I feel my cage is too plain. I might need to add more hammocks.

What keeps your hamsters entertained in their set ups?

Thanks in advance.

I don't have an Alastair but I have similar... I have found handing treats (woodrolls ect.) help with bar chewing. Also interactive toys like a treats in a toilet roll tube with the ends closed.
Maybe try scatter feeding to keep her busy

shawniyatwain has mentioned most of what first came into my mind in regards to activites to keep them busy! I do a 1/4 bowl feeding and 3/4 scatter feeding which seems to keep the hamster occupied. Depending on your hamsters reaction to cage changes you could always start switching around the toys/layout each time you change to keep them occupied. The toilet roll idea works really well, You can find tutorials on youtube but as an extra tip put toilet paper/nesting material before and after the food- makes it harder for the food to just fall out and means the hamster has to work harder to get to the food, and also gets some extra bedding for their nest!

Can't help in regards to photos but I know members have them so hopefully you'll get what you wanted soon

I put a piece of driftwood in Nigel's Marchioro Kevin cage and he seemed to love zooming over the twists and turns and books and crannies! I'll have to take a pic of his new cage layout, I just cleaned and added some new toys tonight.

I like to give a new toy every few days to keep them interested. Cardboard boxes (eg ones that tea bags come in or cereal packets) are brilliant hides with a few holes cut into them.

She may appreciate some play time outside her cage. Gopal (syrian) has learned that a pringles tube takes him to his play box and will happily climb in to be transported!

Is that her in your avatar? If so, she is GORGEOUS.

Yes that is her. She's a cutie!

I have a huge playpen for her but she's never interested in anything I put in it. She just tries to escape! I can't win with her haha.

Hmmm my last hamster, Harvest just wanted to escape as well! I ended up giving her a double story 5 x 2 rabbit hutch with two wheels, a sand pit and loads of toys which i regularly changed.

Female hams are never happy! Mine wants constant attention and takes the huff when I have to go to bed. Haha. She lives in a detolf with a burrowing area, she has tubes, hideouts, puzzle playground you name it, and she still just wants out all of the time. She was In a cage before but the bar chewing was worrying me incase she damaged her teeth
