Something like this ok?
A friend of mine is giving away some old rabbit and guinea pig items, and has asked if I'd like one of the runs as a playpen for Sweep. It's a bit like this Wooden Runs for Small Pets at zooplus: Wooden Run but think it might be square one ... Would it be ok? And if so what can I put under it to stop him eat/peeing on the carpet?

Re: Something like this ok?
It should be fine,as long as the wire spacing is small enough.Measure it in person if possible.

Re: Something like this ok?
I think he'd probably climb over that quite easily - easy enough to climb up mesh! You could make one out of cardboard or correx/coroplast. I got some sheets of A1 sized correx and some bulldog clips, after someone on here suggested it - it works well as a playpen, you just have to check there are no gaps when you clip the pieces together. And you can slide the sheets under the sofa when not in use There's no way a hamster can get over the top. Or cardboard from large boxes would do the same thing. I put a couple of floor cushions in it - if they get pee'd on, they're easy enough to wash but Charlie doesn't seem to pee on them. Or just cardboard or correx on the floor.
Here's our playpen

I think that looks like a perfect climbing frame for a syrian & they'd probably be out in no time at all!
I think correx or cardboard would be far safer too.

If it has got a lid I'd say it would be the perfect playpen/ climbing frame for your little hammy

Re: Something like this ok?
Zoo plus has some solid wooden play pens/indoor run. I haven't checked dimensions of them so not sure if they would be suitably high so the hamster can't escape. They should be harder to climb than a barred playpen. I don't think they have a lid though.

Re: Something like this ok?
Charlie can jump quite high! A lid sounds better. I'd watch the angled corners as well - they don't look big enough to escape from but possible to get stuck in? Hard to tell on the photos. It does look very big!

Re: Something like this ok?
A child's wipe clean mat could go under the playpen. They are quite thick plastic, but can fold up for storage or put the playpen on a tiled floor.
Does anyone who has a playpen put the potty in the playpen? And if they do does the hamster use it to wee in.?
