Re: New Hamster Heaven
Well - as it is now well into June I emailed Savic and asked when the new 100cm Hamster Plaza cage will be onsale. The reply was that it will be on the market in September.
So I don't know if it has been delayed, or if I misunderstood that it would on sale rather than "ready" for June originally. I am guessing the release date has just been delayed! Shame! I had been ticking the time off for it being released! But the good news is that apparently it will be on the market to buy in September. That's all I know right now.

Re: New Hamster Heaven
I was wondering, it is a bit disappointing (I really want to see it lol!) but I kind of expected it really, the release date for new things like this is very often a fair bit later than the original estimate.

Re: New Hamster Heaven
True - at least they are still going to market it! I can understand things being delayed. They have to have a project finished, manufactured, lots of marketing set up for release and deals with stores and so on. It's 3 months away which seems a long time (although might only be just over two months if it's early September).

Re: New Hamster Heaven
Oh no! I've just bought a 100cm cage, bit of a DIY job though, as it is technically a rat cage I think.
Still, Christmas maybe....

Re: New Hamster Heaven
No idea how much it will cost yet either! Savic cages tend not to be that cheap. It is supposed to have a large front opening door though and be a similar size and height to the Barney cage. I'm sure your rat cage will be great - is it a tall one you putting a full level in? (re the diy job). I actually really like the Savic Zeno 3 rat cage - that's a 100cm - but it is really really tall and needs at least one full level.

Re: New Hamster Heaven
I have put some other levels in, but not a full one as I couldn't find one online, so it's like this...
Is that ok do you think?

Re: New Hamster Heaven
That looks really good It's a very nice set up. There could still be a slight fall risk if you don't mind me making a couple of small suggestions. A hammock on the roof in the centre between the two shelves would help risk any falls from the roof down the centre. And at the front, where there's a gap (where the corner shelves stop), you could use that purple ancol tube across that gap at the front, tied to the bars and stretched out a bit, so it makes an access route between the two top shelves (and also blocks the gap). It's high enough that it won't mess up the door access. You can get sisal string by the metre on ebay that's good for tying things to the bars. I also worry a bit about chains in case hammies get their toes caught in them and end up hanging by a leg - but the position of them doesn't look too bad and you maybe know your hamster as well and how they use the cage. But if you got some sisal string for the other tube you could swap the chains for sisal.
So basically, the only slight fall risk is down the centre between the shelves, and across the front from the top (right and centre looking at the photo) - although I can't see how big the gap is between the shelves stopping and the front of the cage. The tube along the front and the hammock over the centre would solve that. Plus it might be quite fun to have the ancol tube as a route between the two top shelves.
This is where you can buy the sisal string by the metre You might need a couple of metres and it's useful to have in for tying things to the cage. You could just loop a piece around the outside of the ancol tube then tie the ends on the other side of the bars - in two or three places along the length of the tube, to hold it in place.
NEW SISAL natural rope string twine, 4 types, you choose size and length 1M | eBay
I love the way you have set it out though - really carefully thought out and looks fun - the left hand front end is fine. If a hamster suddenly climbs up to the roof in a mad moment or monkey bars along the top of the roof they can just drop sometimes though.

Re: New Hamster Heaven
That's really helpful, thank you! I'll get straight on to Ebay!
Much appreciated
She is definitely happier with all of the space definitely, the Hamster Heaven was good for a while, but I could tell she was getting bored and a bit claustrophobic (funny because it seemed huge when I got it!).
Will keep my eye out for the new one though....

Re: New Hamster Heaven
I know that feeling My first (well second) cage was the same size as the Hamster Heaven and it seemed massive. But Charlie also grew massive and needed a big wheel and big toys and suddenly it was cramped! I think a well set up Mamble like yours is a brilliant environment - lots of things to do. I upgraded Charlie to a 100cm Barney earlier this year, aware that he was not young any more, so his set up was good for a while but he is now an old guy and has everything at ground level. I just wish I'd given him a bigger cage earlier!
The sisal string can be a bit of a fiddle but it's ok when you get the hang of it. I'm not sure how easy it would be to tie that tube to the bars as they are bendy and can move a bit but I'm sure you'll work out a way to attach it securely!

Re: New Hamster Heaven
I found photos of the new 100cm Hamster Plaza which is to be available from September. It's on the Savic brochure for 2016/17. Started a new thread on it with the details called Hamster Plaza!
