Re: Tall cage (rat cage) setup for hamster?
aw, thanks Serendipity. NOt quite there yet though, but hopefully it will be good when its done! Will post some pics when its all ready!
Seems like its really hard to get the perfect hamster cage and everyone is doing modifications of some kind... The Leon cage looks fab if only the floors area was larger... But I think I got my inspiration to my full level shelf from that...

I agree - if they made a 100cm Leon cage it would be brilliant!

I think these should work for the roof as well. Let me know if you find ones that maybe look nicer or work better - I'm still keen to do the same with the roof of my Mamble as well.

Ruby, could you maybe let me know what size/ diameter your lobster clasps are? Want to order some online but am really unsure about size as dont want them too big, but not too small and fiddly either! Thanks!

Re: Tall cage (rat cage) setup for hamster?
The inside diameter is 1cm for the clasps. That being said you may find that for clipping the roof you need slightly bigger ones if the distance between the roof and cage bits you want to clip together is too big. With the doors it's not a problem because the wires 'squish' together easily. I tried a clasp on my roof and it was just a fraction too small to clip together - but that may just be my particular roof because it's not very well aligned so it's cable tied on. May be worthwhile getting a few sizes to try. I'm pretty sure you can get clasps with a 1.5cm inside diameter as well but maybe try the 1cm ones first?

Re: Tall cage (rat cage) setup for hamster?
I've actually just tried this out for the top of the cage with some metal clasp earrings that I dont use Do you think he would be able to squeeze through here? The gap is only about 1cm but just having it at all worries me a bit....

One of my roborovskis is in a cage with 1cm bar spacing and has never escaped. Cant imagine a syrian squeezing through there tbh.

As long as the gap is no more than 1cm you're good - that's the space between bars for the rest of the cage

Re: Tall cage (rat cage) setup for hamster?
A Syrian won't be able to get through 1cm as the others say. Best not to use the earrings really in case he tries to chew them (or were they just a demonstration?). Is it a Syrian or dwarf hamster you have?
