Re: Starting to smell!
If she pees in one place which most will just remove the wet substrate or nesting material daily but don't keep cleaning out the rest of the cage too frequently. If she still pees in lots of places try to wait it out a bit or she'll get stressed & pee more if you over clean.
Did you get a litter tray & give it a go or not?

Re: Starting to smell!
I cannot find where she pees. It is dry everywhere. It no longer smells anymore.

Re: Starting to smell!
I wouldn't worry about cleaning much then, they really only do pee a very small amount when healthy so just partial cage cleans maybe once a month & if you do spot anything damp or smelly just remove that when you find it.
It would still be worth giving the litter tray/sand bath idea a go as she would be likely to use it & make life easier still!

Re: Starting to smell!
Yes I ordered some chinchilla sand and a bathe! She has gotten better with me. She has recently stopped biting me and crawls to my hand. When I put her in my bed she likes to run under my sweater or blankets. She's my first hamster so learning process for both of us

Re: Starting to smell!
Sounds like you're starting to make good progress with her, if you're not cleaning so much now she's probably less stressed & that helps with taming.

Re: Starting to smell!
Hello. Well I finally received the chinchilla sand. I put it in her cage. She went inside the bathe for about 2-3 minutes. Kicked sand out like a dog digging. Sniffed then left. Can I just leave it in her cage? Or does she not like it.

Re: Starting to smell!
How long do I leave it in there? Some say differently that it can cause her dry skin of left for to long.

Re: Starting to smell!
Her skin should be fine, mine all have sand baths permanently in the cage & I've never had a problem.
If she pees in it just scoop out the damp sand but leave the sand bath in for her all the time.

Re: Starting to smell!
Okay great thank you. So I found out the smell was coming from the actual bedding. As soon as I replaced it with a different brand it was much better. Since she is not potty trained how often should I change her bedding? It doesn't smell.
