PETCO ceramic water bottle holder: WARNING
Warning to anyone who owns the PETCO Ceramic Water Bottle holder:
This morning I found Butters, my new baby hamster, IN the holder, UNDER the water bottle!!! He was unharmed and sleeping away, but this is a hazard I didn't even think about with my bigger Syrians! I've devised a cover out of cardboard for now, but the Alfie Water Bottle holder has been ordered pronto!!!

Whew, glad Butters was okay kiwi, what a fright for you. Could he squeeze out again okay? I would actually bin that unless you can devise a way to glue a metal lid over the gaps so the bottle can fit inside but not leave any gaps around the top. x

I searched the entire cage & actually thought he'd escaped somehow. Then I heard him give a little "humph" as if I was disturbing his sleep. I honestly don't know if he would've been able to get out on his own...glad I found him so I didn't have to find out!!!
I have another, different, holder on order just waiting for it to arrive. Don't know if I'd be able to find a piece of metal that would be able to fit everything...a large washer maybe. Regardless, Butters is getting a new bottle & holder!!!!! I'm not willing to risk it!

Re: PETCO ceramic water bottle holder: WARNING
Quite right kiwi to evaluate everything as sometimes we miss these faults without realising they are `faults` within the design. Here`s a quick way to make a safer bottle holder from a clear water bottle weighed down with pebbles in case you need a `quick fix`.

Re: PETCO ceramic water bottle holder: WARNING
He probably thought it was a nice dark little house lol! You could leave it in there as a hidey place, but take the bottle out and attach it some other way - some people just stick the bottle to the sides with industrial velcro. On second thoughts no - the opening is too small on top for ceramic and he will be growing and could get stuck trying to get in, so best to remove it. He's adorable!

Wow. Glad he was all right. That does sound like a hazard. Maybe you should invest in a holder with suction cups? My hammys enjoy the sippy small brand.
