Default Setting up the Barney

So the plan is to set up the Barney for Harvey tomorrow afternoon once I'm back home. At the mo, Harvey has her nest and potty under the duna shelf on the left, sand bath back right and food on the right shelf. Do I try to replicate this in the Barney I. E. House on the left, shelf on the right?

I'm going to need a lot more substrate but was planning to add all her old stuff (poo and seed husks included) on top so to retain as much scent as possible.

I'll need extra toys but thought I'd move her in first and see how much space is left.

Does that sound ok? Anything else I need to consider?

Default Re: Setting up the Barney

Putting things in similar locations can be a good thing. On the other hand it depends if the set up works in the new cage. And she could move things as well. eg if you had the house on the left and the shelf on the right she might just make a nest under the shelf - depends if she prefers being under a shelf or on the left lol!

But it sounds like a sensible plan to me, to put her current cage contents in similar places. But as the cage is bigger, you could still have a similar set up and extra space beyond that - if that makes sense. So you could have for example, the same size floor area of current cage at one end of the cage, set up in the same way - and still have an extra 30cm of cage space beyond that to do whatever you want with - whether it's tunnelling space, toys.

I've wondered about this a few times when looking at bigger cage set ups - whether to just 'spread everything out' to fit the corners of the cage - or keep the set up smaller and have a digging area at one end.

But yes it does sound good to put house and potty on the left and shelf on the right, if that is what she is used to. Wheel could go centre back I guess - or a bit either way of centre back.
