Luna's new pad (Barney)
A thread about our new cage.
Annoyingly we missed the delivery on Xmas Eve so now we have to wait till Tuesday to get it
So in lieu of setting it up, I thought I'd start a thread where I can show you guys the development of it once it gets here. I've ordered 2 of the large grass hammocks so we can 'fall proof' it, as she seems to be a climber even in the Favola she's in at the moment. We've also got a large wheel coming and I've got some plasticote to treat the house and shelf.
Is there anything else that you would see as 'essential' for the set up? Any advice gladly recieved

Re: Luna's new pad (Barney)
Lots of fitch (or whatever substrate you have chosen). I have filled the base of Gopal's barney with finacard and fitch (mainly fitch which is on the top).
I have ordered him a sputnik and he has a rabbit corner litter tray on his shelf for his sand pit (otherwise it goes everywhere).
Tunnels are good. G. has a large cardboard one but want to get a rat sized plastic job for linking his sputnik to the ground.
I am researching houses that are big enough for syrians with lids that come off so enable easy bed checks (swoop in when hamster is out of bed to change any rotting stash of food or wee'd in bedding).
Sounds like you have got well prepared. Lucky Luna. I love set up threads.

Re: Luna's new pad (Barney)
Same as flowerfairy has said really - both mine are in Barneys and they have rabbit corner trays as sandbath, both have two sputniks hung from the ceiling, and lots of tubes. The purple bendy tubes pets at home do fit perfectly in the openings of the rat sized sputniks. They also have bendy bridges, carrot cottages, Glowy nests in a Sputnik and Nibble has one of these boxes from IKEA,
KNAGGLIG Box - 23x31x15 cm - IKEA
Only £5 and very spacious and the lid/floor comes off (if you don't screw it down of course!) the holes aren't big enough for a ham to get stuck in and anyway Nibble has filled them in with substrate. I was going to get one for Glowy but he seems to think anything like this is some sort of private toilet arrangement I've laid on!

Oooo liking the idea of two sputniks hanging from the ceiling. May have to get ordering again in the near future ...
How are the preparations for Luna's new pad going?

Re: Luna's new pad (Barney)
Still waiting to find out if it's going to be delivered today. Hopefully the wheel and the grass shelves will come with it, cant wait to set it all up. Loving the sputnik idea and with the tube too. I'm going to get one of the bendy bridges to make one section deeper for digging, already got a tiny toilet thing but will get one of the corner litter trays for her sand bath - or maybe a Tupperware box in the mean time.
Just want it to be here now!

Re: Luna's new pad (Barney)
Its here, its here, its here! Wow, I can really appreciate the difference in size now.
Lovely Yodel deliveted it to the wrong block but thankfully the nice lady came over with it (no idea how she carried it). One small niggle is there's a dent in one corner of the frame, obviously been smacked on something, but there's no way Im waiting for another one. Will still get in touch with zoo plus and let them know.
I've just set the shelf and house out to plasticote. Will do more piccies once we put them together.

Re: Luna's new pad (Barney)
How exciting for you! Yodel are not the best couriers (I chose DPD) last time I ordered from Zooplus and they were good. Actually, the bars that are bent, I would leave them alone if you don`t see any wide gaps, just the fact that they have been `dented` into. Check them though for any loose spars as those could come loose. Hopefully the bars on the Barney being close together will be strong and hold well. If the plastic base is okay, then the whole cage should work well. Zooplus seeing the damage might offer you a discount though so do send them the image of the damage. x
