Default Alexander cage 64.99 on zooplus atm

What a bargain. Would love one of these but have been going cage crazy recently having to quickly get two new cages for my roborovskis when they had to be separated.

Hopefully they will keep it on sale like this for ages.

Fine if they don`t deliver it with a broken base though or bent bars! Zooplus are good at this, albeit the courier will get the blame, but the packaging is usually naff. I would only buy this particular cage for a Syrian as I feel it`s rather large for dwarf hamsters, especially if they are single. Probably great while they are young enough to use all the space, but not so much when they become older and don`t use the space. I find a smaller cage (Zoozone 1 type) and having a decent wheel is a all a single dwarf requires, although giving them more running space isn`t a bad thing. x

Yes. I reakon that it would be a bit big for a roborovski. Mine seem really happy in the grosvenor rat (haha) and hamster cage and the alaska.

The barney is just as good as the alexander but I do like the extra levels in the a.

Arriving with a damaged base and or broken bars is just rubbish. My alaska was really well packaged with lots of bubble wrap and tie things to hold it all together.

Perhaps one day I will be able to get my little whizzers out into a taming box and from there in to a big exercise/play box ... will have to see how they feel about all that!

Yes, it can be frustrating when ordering a nice cage and it turns up damaged. Some are fine though. I suppose it`s how good the packaging is done and the courier handles with care (not!). Even now having kept hamsters for years, I`m still not sure how I feel about really large cages. I`m quite happy keeping the one dwarf hamster in the 80cm x 45cm, range size. My Gabber Rex tank is around 75cm long, but I have a shelf in there, a silent spinner and various hidey-holes! Does the job. x

I read (on another forum) about a lady who had a hamster in the spare room who had 15 cages all joined together and used to race to her to be let out for cuddles. !!!

I reakon that having plenty to do and nice cosy hiding places are the main things (along with all their sustenance and comfort needs ofcourse).

Exactly. Enrichment, but at the same time, allowing them to have a private space to call their own without too much fussing. They seem much more contented. x
