Great! You might need two coats. Let it get good and dry before the second coat. Another thing to check for before you plasticote is any kind of sharp or splintered edges that Ham might hurt himself on. You should be able to sand with a little sand paper til smooth. There might not be any but it's good to check.
My dog is missing a front leg. It's easier for a dog to have a missing back leg but I don't know if it's the same for a Ham.
Do you have the little guy now or are you collecting him later? You will need a water bottle on a stand for that cage. Can someone recommend a good one? I will look for a link when I am on my other computer- on the iPad now.

Hello! I picked her up on weds and found out, that is a girl! she is still very scared and I am introducing myself slowly. She looks very baby still and she is lovely. Plastikote came today so I can start setting up her mansion I noticed, that when she is cleaning herself, she does clicking noise and also she looks like she is stretching her neck to the left side. Is that normal? I can't wait to show her new house and post some pictures. Thanks for all help!

It doesn't sound as though she's really doing anything unusual, just give her some time to settle in & keep an eye on her without intruding too much until she's got used to things.
Have fun setting up her new home!

I have this cage for my syrian and its great. On advice from another member on here I turned the front panel upside down, that gives you the door at the top and means you can fill it with substrate. Nelly doesn't actually care about digging in the substrate but she does nest in the back corner under one of the shelves.

With the wheel what I did is use the square house as a base, and put the wheel on that. She wouldn't use the wooden houses anyway and my wooden wheel fitted perfectly! Then I had a broken bendy bridge which I glued on the front to make a little ramp up to it, and buried it in the substrate. I didn't want to take it out the substrate so I tried to take a picture as best I could to explain this!

Love that wheel stand peasypea! yes - when you put the flatpack cage together, put the door at the top instead of the bottom - ie switch those two front panels round so the door is at the top. Then you can fill the base with substrate up to, or just under, the level of the first shelf. And you could either put the wheel on the front extended bit of the first shelf, or stand the wheel on something, as peasypee has, so it stands above the substrate and is supported.

Where is your new baby girl going to be while you get the cage plastikoted (or did I miss something lol?) I get this paint on plastikote - it's the water based one. It's quite a small pot but it covers quite well. I would just paint the inside shelves and houses (if you're going to use the houses), the inside strut wood areas, but maybe not bother with the larger inside panels, and put something like a piece of correx on the base if you don't want to do too much painting.

One of these should do it if you cut it carefully to use the offcuts, or you might need two pieces. Unless the base is already melamine, I don't know. Maybe plastikote round the bottom section of the wood panels as well inside in case any wet substrate gets up against them.

Good idea Serendipity, with correx, I will get one. At the moment, I painted two coats of plstikote and she is all settled now. Before she was in the plastic, pet shop cage. I think she like it, she is really courious and looks happy, walking around, is a big house and lots of to discover. I put on, only one shelf, at the moment, i don't want her to jump from the higher shelf. She is not fully tamed yet and I try, every day, bit by bit. She is really scared and jumpy.
Is good to know that somebody has same cage, thanks Peasypea, I feel better, as I am vey worry of her. She had some rush on the left shoulder, they treat her in the pet shop and she is fine, I am a bit worry, as she doesn't let me to check her yet and i don't want to force her, for no reason.
I am sending a few pictures, of the new house
Thanks guys for helping me with the beginnings.

It's looking good. Look at her little face in that last photo! She will be a bit nervy for the first 2 or 3 weeks in her new cage, so best to avoid cleaning anything for the first couple of weeks.

Talking Re: Is this cage safe?

Hi All, I would like to open a new subject, about bedding. I think is still very difficult decision what to buy and pet shops are selling beddings, that it could be dangerous for ham. I have bought some bedding for her and i noticed she is chewing them, so i got intrested if is safe for her? I bought paper bedding, "paper wool" and "petathome" I know there are some beddings are bad for them. What is your opinion and experience? I don't want anything to happen to my little one. She is lovely, getting on, with her big house and started to trust me..slowly Thanks for all help with my good start!
