Default Duna Maxi Fun

Hello everyone.

Im new on here as i have just adopted a very cute Syrian from the RSPCA. I have had Robo's and Russian Hamsters before but never a Syrian. I have a normal Duna from when i had the others but feel its a bit ont he small side for Smartie. I have read loads about cages and looked up loads and know bigger is better! So, i am on the hunt for the ideal cage. I have bought an Imac Fantasy but as yet havent put him in it as im not sure if i like it, so i may take it back.

The Hamster Heaven would be my preferred choice but not at £80!

So, i have seen a couple of people mention the Duna Maxi Fun, i love my Duna as its so easy to clean out and easy to put together, but need a larger one for Smartie so that one looks ideal, but i cannot seem to find one to buy anywhere! Does anyone know where you get these? and any thoughts on that one for a Syrian welcomed.
Also, i know a Syrian needs an 8 inch wheel, i bought a comfort wheel which is 8.5, but the middle bit (the spoke i guess, pokes right out to edge of wheel) so i am not sure about it as i can see Smartie poking himself!, other than that i have a large rolly which is 7 inches which he is using for now, but i cannot find another 8 inch one anywhere! Any tips appreciated please.

Many thanks!

If you like the Hamster Heaven, have a google for the Savic Ruffy, it's the same foot print as the heaven, but is a lot cheaper! It doesn't come with any of the stuff the heaven does unfortunately..

I've never had any of my hamsters hurt their selves on the Comfort Wheel, they've all been fine with it.

Hello and welcome Kirsty and Smartie

Well done for adopting your hammie!!

Well we're new to having Syrians too (although I had them years ago when I was a kid), we too have Robos and Syrians' needs are a tad different to that of Robos or dwarves in general.

We have one Syrian in an Imac Fanstasy and it's a fanatastic sized cage with just the 2 levels but it can also be extended, our Jet seems to enjoy it, however she has taken to chewing the bars (no matter what or how many toys she has) and she's now got a little bald patch on her nose, so for that reason we're changing to a Perfecto Tank.

Our other Syrian Coco, is in a Duna Max Fun, well for the moment (she's also going to be getting a Perfecto Tank), we've removed the wire section that is the middle because of her excessive bar chewing too, so she is now in a basic duna, which at the moment is ok for her as she's so tiny, she still monkey bars across the top of the cage but she doesn't seem to be chewing them. However, with the 3 levels and tubes it gives them a fair bit of room to move around. There are websites on the internet that sell them, I think they are around £50.00, I can't recall the name of the site though.

As for the wheels, again we've managed with the regular silent spinners for the robo's but at the moment, Jet had a Rody Wheel (too noisy) and Coco has a regular silent spinner, which will become too small for her as she grows. However, we've just purchased 2 wodent wheels from http://www.equinecaninefeline.co.uk these are recommended on here and seem to be an ideal size for Syrians.

Good luck with your search.

Hello!

Thankyou both very much for your replies

I have seen a Savic Ruffy and thought they looked good actually. There are so many to choose from! Thankyou though, i shall keep an eye out for one of those and a Duna Maxi Fun if i can find one on the net and see which comes up first at the best price.
I have just found someone who is selling a Hamster Heaven, so if i can get a fair price for that i may well get that, decisions decisions.. I shall update this post when i finally purchase one

Again, thankyou both for your replies and ill post a piccie of Smartie when ive taken one! (im a bit behind with the photo taking of him...)
