The woodshavings sold in the UK are fine for hamsters. Never buy any of the scented / deodourised / treated types as hamsters have very sensitive noses. Would you like to be overwhelmed by the scent of Lavendar which you could not get away from ! Go for a dust extracted type as they do not irritate eyes and noses.
The Canac or Supreme choice plain shavings would be best. Carefresh is excellent but the colour can be a bit offputting and it is pricey.
Personally we use the Wilkinsons ones available on most high streets as a good price.

That's great, that gives me a few to choose from. I know some people on here use Carefresh but the price did put me off a bit as I like to give Myfanwy a fair bit in her cage.

Have you thought about using megazorb? It's initially used for horses but it's ideal for hamsters. Unfortunately it only comes in big bags, so for those who have only a couple of hamsters it may not seem worth it but we've now got 7 so it's good value for us. We recently ran out and have had to use shavings but we're now going back to megazorb.

They don't sell it on the site I'm ordering from but thanks for the advice. I think I'll go for the Canac plain shavings.
