Smile Suitable home for 1 dwarf hamster?

So, I've had Syrians for years, but have recently decided I would really love a dwarf hammy! Now I already have a ferplast duna fun that I can't seem to sell, so I thought if it's suitable then great I can use that! I know it's nowehere big enough for a syrian, but I just had it as a temp cage when I got my first syrian until he went into his bin cage

So is this ok for 1 dwarf?

Any opinions?

Ferplast duna fun or duna fun large? I would say either one is too small for a dwarf tbh, they may be small but their also very energetic & love to burrow so they need plenty of space & deep substrate, they really need as much space as a syrian the only real difference is bar spacing which should be ideally 7-8mm but a max of 1cm is usually ok.
Which species of dwarf were you thinking of getting?

It's just the standard duna fun, not the large. Just thought it was worth an ask just in case I can use it again. Haven't decided yet on a dwarf, still researching all of them!

It would be too small, at least in my opinion. I keep my single dwarves in Duna Multys, or currently, an Imac Bingo. Both are around 70 x 40cm. You could also get a Zoozone and mesh it. The main reason that I like them for dwarves is that they are tank style, so smaller dwarves can't get out. They work great as well as you can have a deep substrate for them to burrow in, and I found that my dwarves love to burrow, more than my Syrians.

Even though dwarves are smaller, they are so active and fast. The only other cage I have used, which I am right now, is a Mini Duna for my Chinese rescue. He was in a much smaller cage when he arrived and I felt it was better for him at the time, and I filled it with toys and added tunnels under the substrate to make it fun for him. As he isn't tame yet I will be keeping him in there, but otherwise, I have plans to upgrade him in the future.

Thanks for the advice everyone I am currently trying to source a large glass tank as I much prefer them to cages! Trying to get a fairly cheap one!

A standard Duna Multy would be good as Sin Nyx said. Or a glass tank would be good too but I have found it very hard to find anything cheap or second hand (nigh on impossible in our area!) Or you could get a detolf for £40!

Ferplast Duna Multy Small Animal Cage, 71 x 46 x 31.5 cm, Blue: Amazon.co.uk: Pet Supplies

DETOLF Glass-door cabinet - IKEA

As the others say, the duna fun is too small for a hamster, although it could be good to keep as a pet carrier, travel cage or play cage while you are cage cleaning.

Here are some I have found near home, any comments? Obviously some of them need work, new mesh lids etc but I am fine making these

I have a cage similar to the Duna Fun for my Syrian and Two dwarfs though I found out that it was way too small recently so yesterday I went out and bought 2 plastic storage bins for £10. As you said you have a bin cage for your Syrian, I don't think you need me to explain how to make one haha but bin cages are great and they are just so cheap and easy to make, I'd suggest making another. As Serendipity said, the IKEA detolf is an amazing glass tank for hamsters. It has plenty of space for a dwarf and it's really cheap! Also I don't know if you do but if you have another hamster, you can split the cage in two. The only issue I guess with it would be the amount of space it takes up, it's 163cm I believe and in my eyes its quiete large. As long as you have enough space and time to put it together, it would be ideal for your future dwarf. If you can't sell your other cage, I'd just use the things it provides for future cages. Like if you make a DIY cage, I'd use the platform and toys and things that it comes with. Just the little things inside could be put to good use and I think the tunnel it has would make just a good tunnel toy to put inside a cage, that what I did with a tunnel connected to my hamsters cage that wasn't needed. Hope this helped and good luck with your future dwarf!

The second tank is bigger so more for your money. The first tank looks wider but the seller suggests it`s 2ft? That`s only 61cm, so I would contact them regarding length/width/height and then decide. x

This is near me, reckon I could get it for £15 but I think space is going to be an issue
