Default What do you think?

I've been playing around with the idea of making some hamster cage accessories to sell and I could do with some feedback please.
I've made some tunnels, this one in pink

It is bottomless with a hole either end and one in the side. I have also made a blue one with a hole in the top instead of the side.

I am thinking of doing them in lots of colours with different decorations.

I am also intending to make some matching houses, with the idea being like a mix and match, that you could set up connecting tunnels and houses in any pattern you want. Does that make sense? Any way I was wondering what you guys thought and would you change anything? I have never made or sold anything before, so its all new to me and I could do with some advice. I hope its ok to put this on here, I am not looking to sell, I just want some feedback.

I like how they look although I prefer to have accessories that are just glued together rather than being made with screws or nails. My hamster is a real chewer and I worry that she'll uncover the screws and hurt herself.

I think these are a good idea. I personally prefer the natural wood look but a lot of people like coloured things too so its a good idea to offer to both I think.

Have you seen Manor Pet Housing? Welcome to Manor Pet Housing | Manor Pet Housing I think you have a similar idea. They make really cool warren/castle systems for bunnies and I've always wanted a mini hamster version, they are so cool!

Thank you both for the input. I'll try making one just with glue and see how it comes out. I didn't think of offering unpainted ones, I will certainly do that too!

Thanks! I will definitely have unpainted ones then. It saves me a lot of work too

Those are a nice work in progress PiggyRoom and I like the fact they have open floors and holes for entry/exit as hamsters do seem to prefer having those than not. You could make a few in various sizes as Syrian hamsters like roomy beds! I use large, long cardboard hankie boxes for my dwarf hamster and when I had my Syrian, he had an up-turned shoe box, so that will give you some idea of sizes.

Screws, if they are short and well inserted should`nt cause any issues. They seem to be countersunk into the wood so as long as the screws don`t protrude out the back, like all wooden products, the owner just needs to check it daily for any signs of wear and gently sand down any chewed areas. They look better made than some of those shoddy wooden huts on sale! x

I love these and I would happily buy one. I do like the painted ones as it hides the screws but a natural one would be cool too. I also love the little hummingbird on the blue one.

I think they look great, finding cute little hides for a large-ish syrian is HARD. The screws don't bother me overmuch, I think my syrian would chew the life out of it but the wood is thick enough that you would definitely notice before it got dangerous.

If you happened to make a syrian sized verson of the Trixie Lief house I would maybe throw money at you.
