Which cage for Robos?
Hi!
I'm looking into getting a pair of Roborovski hamsters in the next couple of weeks and I'm currently researching what cage to get for them. I would like to get a plastic cage and there are a few I've seen on the internet that I like but I'd appreciate your advice as I've never kept robos before.
I would like something as escape proof as possible as I have an elderly cat. Whilst he has never been interested in my Syrian I don't want to risk losing an escapee robo to him.
My local pet shop has a Gabber Rex in stock but I was concerned about the bar spacing. I've seen a few other cages but they are a bit smaller. I wondered what you think of them and would they be ok for a pair of robos?
Fop Bernie Deluxe
Savic Rody Hamster
Ferplast Mini Duna
Ferplast Mini Duna Fun
I know that bigger is better but I'm thinking is it better to have a slightly smaller escape proof cage than risk losing them from a larger one? Building a bin cage or adapting a guinea pig cage is not an option.
TIA!
Clair

Re: Which cage for Robos?
My oppinion is go for the Gabber rex as its a great size for two robos. Plus you don't usually see them in shops so if you can get one then great!
Regarding the bar spacing I dont know what is suitable sorry

Re: Which cage for Robos?
Gabber rex - great cage. They won't get out of the bars because they won't be able to reach them unless you put hanging toys.
Fop Bernie Deluxe - i have no experience of this cage, but i think it would be ok.
Savic Rody Hamster - yes, brilliant for 2 robos. This would be my first choice.
Ferplast Mini Duna - also great
Ferplast Mini Duna Fun - no, i wouldn't go for this. The tubes cause them to fight and there's a possiblilty that they will get out of the bars. I tried this cage for 2 different pairs and it was a bad idea as they fought over the tubes.
You'll need to fit 2 wheels into whatever cage you choose.

Re: Which cage for Robos?
Hi!
Thanks for the replies. I went out to have a look at another pet shop today and ended up buying a mini duna. I was much happier with the bar spacing than on the Gabber Rex and there seems to be plenty of room. All I need now are the robos!
Thanks again!

Glat to hear you got your cage. Looking forward to meeting the new residents soon.
You saw a shop selling a Gabber Rex? Where was it?

Re: Which cage for Robos?
I saw a Gabber Rex for sale in Middletons in Worksop, Nottinghamshire. It had a yellow base and I think it was priced at around £32. I didn't see any stickers that said Gabber Rex on it but I recognised it from photographs - a large plastic topped cage with a wire lid, a second level running along the back wall and a wheel in the middle.
I was quite surprised to see it as I've read how they are hard to get hold of. If anyone is interested you can call Middletons to see if they still have it. Their number is 01909 472209. I have no affiliation to the shop - just passing on the information.
