Re: Let's see your cages! (From May 2015)
I'm thinking I should dig my hemp matting out & get a bit creative with it too now lol! haven't used it in ages hmmmm.....
Those coloured bridges are good, I have quite a few & ordered a few more, not sure why but I know I'll soon find a use for them!

There are so many amazing hamster homes on this thread! Thank you everybody for sharing! I've pinched so many ideas for our new hammies cage, which should be set up over this weekend, I will share a photo when it's done.

Re: Let's see your cages! (From May 2015)
We have finished setting up the cage for our new Syrian girly who we will hopefully be bringing home from the the rescue centre on the 25th of this month.
We decided to go for the Barney cage and the plan was to keep the overall setup fairly natural. We tried to use lots of ideas from this thread and take on board some of the tips and advice we have read on here.
We would really appreciate some feedback on it and any tips for things we might need to change or add are welcome.
Thank you!

Re: Let's see your cages! (From May 2015)
Wow Scooby that looks great! Really interesting levels and lots to do. My only really suggestion would be to add another bendy stick ladder or similar to the left side of the cage between the two shelves, so your hammy can go directly from the bottom shelf up to the top one and then back down the current bendy ladder. Plus more substrate You don't have to worry about substrate falling out through the bars with the Barney - I've got it piled up against the bars in places and it still doesn't fall out
The only other suggestions (and that's just being picky lol) is that the sand bath might be better on the floor under one of the shelves - just thinking sand might end up everywhere lol! Out through the bars, onto the shelf below. They are good at kicking it out all over the place ha ha.

Re: Let's see your cages! (From May 2015)
Thanks Serendipity.
We put the ladder there originally and then moved it, as the shelves overlap anyway..think we might have another one in a box upstairs...I'll have a look.
I said exactly the same about the sand and it going everywhere! Haha! We said we would probably cable tie some card to make a wall onto the bars to stop it going everywhere. I was going to put it underneath the big shelf on the right- next to the house but I wanted to leave the corner free as I didn't want to block up all the corners so she can choose her toilet area.
Good to know the substrate doesn't come through the bars- that was our worry,I'll put another inch or two in.
Thanks.

Oh good point about the toilet corner! Yes maybe best to wait and see what she does. It's difficult to tell heights and so on from photos, but I think they like direct ladders to shelves. I've just been fiddling around with access ladders for two days so I'm probably obsessed right now ha ha.
