Question keeping my hamster cool

What are your ways of keeping your hamster cool in the summer? It gets fairly hot in my room at times and for now I'm keeping a cooled mason jar in her cage for her which she sees to like so far. But what else would you guys recommend?

Do you give her a water bottle or bowl? If you give her a bowl, put some ice cubes in it.

I use a Chin-Chiller cooling slab. It's a piece of granite which I put in the fridge to get cold and then put it in the cage. It's actually made for Chinchillas to help them keep cool, but hammies can decide whether or not to lie on it when they need to also.

You can bring them to Home Depot and see if someone can cut one in several pieces for you.

Try a granite coaster or ceramic tile, anything flat and ceramic will do really, try raiding your kitchen cupboard for something and pop it in the fridge like DrKMcK advised. You could get a couple of items and just change them out every now and then.

For the granite coasters it would be something like this for example : http://www.amazon.ca/Creative-Percen...ranite+coaster

Aside from that it's things like making sure there is a bit of a breeze, that the cage is out of direct sunlight and so on.

EDIT: Oooh, good idea about having the Chin-Chiller slab cut to size!

Ruby!!! Those are great!! So much easier too. I think some folks have used ceramic coffee mugs in the fridge and then in the cage too.

Ahh thank you! She has a chilled mason jar for now and she's sleeping in it right now so I know she likes it. I was thinking of going to Home Depot and asking for a sample tile "for my kitchen " lol. That way they are tiny and free!
