Ok so I've measured the tank and it is the 60cm x 30cm that the people said it was.

I keep looking at it though and can't help thinking that I could make it into a lovely home for a tiny Robo. I have one shelf already and I could get another one. It's lovely and deep for lots of substrate to dig in and I'd obviously provide plenty of toys and hidey houses, and I have a good wheel spare.

Do I...?! Surely there is an unwanted little Robo out there who would be happy living in it?

Or would people really not advise it? Please be honest x

Hi barley, robos are very fast and love to be able to run about, the tank is on the small side.

To be honest I really think the tank is small for something as active as a robo, bearing in mind that they don't normally tend to have a lot of out of cage time but are really busy little things I think they need something bigger, it would be great for a really deep layer of substrate but I do think they need more room to zoom around plus lots of hideouts too.

I tend to agree barley. cypher hit the nail on the head regarding robos preferring their own run around space and not so much out of cage time, so if he/she was to stay in the tank a lot, it may be too restrictive in that respect. I know when I have a robo, I like him to have as much cage space as possible. My Gabber Rex tank, around the same size as a Zoozone 1 these days, is the smallest I would keep any dwarf hamster in because I know anything smaller is restrictive. So being totally honest, I would sell the tank on and wait until you can find a bargain Zoozone 1 or similar. The tank might suit snails or a Betta fish or anything that would be more suited to it. x

Ok guys thanks. I won't be buying another tank/cage, I was only considering it because I had this tank and everything else ready to go. Nevermind, ickle rescue Robo will have to be forgotten about. Thanks all x

I`ve had another look at this and got the measuring tape out. 60 x 30cm isn't great, but it isn`t bad either. Adding an internal shelf, a GOOD wheel and perhaps allowing for some daily playtimes if necessary shouldn`t be a deal breaker if the hamster is going to be from Gumtree or a Pets At Home adoptee? Glass tanks can`t be extended for obvious reasons unless a glass cutter could be used to make a round hole in the glass by a qualified glass person to then secure a tube that would run to another cage or tank.

What size is the mini Duna tank? Is it bigger than this tank or similar in size? Just wondered as many people still keep a robo in one. Just wondered if there was some sort of compromise that could be made here because barley does have an internal shelf, a Trixie wheel and other accessories? x

The Mini Duna is 55cm x 39cm. So about the same size really, just bit wider and a little shorter.

I just keep looking at the tank and thinking I could make a lovely home for an unwanted little Robo from Gumtree/PAH adoption who could end up god knows where...

BUT! At the same time - you guys are the experts, not me. Rupert is my first hamster since childhood and you all know the mistakes I first made with him in regards to his cage and wheel - I only knew to put them right because of the help you guys gave me. So if the fairly unanimous thoughts are that it is too small, then I will take that advice as like I say, you all know far more than me xx

I like your approach to this barley and at the end of the day, if you have any doubts and if you feel it`s not really working due to the size, then it might be worth leaving the idea until later on and you might come across a robo or a Russian dwarf WITH CAGE! on Gumtree. Lets face it...there are always some out there! x

Good on you. Never mind barley, the tank might make a nice planter! x
