Default Where to find really big cages

When I first got my hamster I bought a cage at the pet store that has two levels. I am convinced that it's not big enough because I can't even fit a house and a wheel in the bottom half without cutting off his access to the water bottle! I am looking for a larger one but they are all very expensive and I can't afford them! If anyone knows of a website/company that sells large cages for, at the most, $100 I'd really appreciate it! I feel bad that he doesn't have a much space as he deserves!

I'm guessing from the $ you'll not be in the UK, so at an educated guess... If you're in the USA this thread is full of helpful ideas

Marchioro Goran on amazon. This is under 100 dollars, just... Same as marchioro Kevin but cheaper.

I have the same issue as you. I want a bigger cage for my hamster but there all do expensive and have faults. I have decided to make a bin cage. I think you should consider a bin cage there are many tutorials on YouTube and on the Internet!

If you're in the US there aren't many big cages for hamsters, and some people use tanks instead. But there are a couple of good ones. The Marchioro as mentioned is one.

Here's the Marchioro Goran - they make excellent cages!

Amazon.com : Marchioro Goran 82 Cage for Small Animals, 32.25 inches, Beige/Green : Pet Cages : Pet Supplies

There's also the Mamble which is called the Ferret Kit Cage in the US. It's a big 100cm cage with 1cm bar spacing, so ok for a syrian, but not a dwarf (is yours a syrian?) and costs $82.91. It's quite tall so you'd need something to prevent falls from the top, like extra shelves and/or a hammock, and deep substrate.

If it's a dwarf hamster, you'd probably be better off getting a tank or terrarium. Candra on here got a good one from Petsmart I believe which was just over $100 I seem to remember.

If he's a Syrian I'd be tempted to go for the bigger cheaper one, normally, but the Goran is such a great cage and also an excellent size, that that would be my first choice. The Marchioro cages like this one have a nice big front access door, which is something we all want on cages. Easy to get your hamster out without looking like a hawk descending from above, and easy to get things in and out of the cage. It's also got a good platform which you can put where you want or not use at all, and the tube looks a good size too. I want one! I noticed one of the reviewers said it's better to order it from Dr Fosters Smith instead of Amazon as delivery takes ages with Amazon apparently, although it does say there is 1 in stock. The taller Ferret cage would take quite a lot of setting up to make it safe height-wise and I believe they're difficult to put together too. I wouldn't think it worth $80 odd dollars, whereas I think the Marchioro one comes in one piece (two pieces if you count the tray) and I'd say is worth every penny of $99! I noticed one of the other reviewers from the Kevin, which is the same size, says a 12" silent spinner won't fit in, but an 11" wodent wheel will fit in, so looks like a wodent wheel would be good for it. the wodent wheel would also take up less space in the cage as it's a bit slimmer as well.

Here's the link to it on Dr Fosters and Smith - same price.

Then you just need a nice syrian sized house for him as a hide to make his nest in, lots of substrate and some torn up soft toilet paper for building his nest. I believe popular substrate in the US includes Kaytee Clean n Cozy, Boxo, Carefresh and Aspen. I'd go for the first one as some Carefresh in the US has baking soda in, which isn't good, but it should say on the label.

Also, just bear in mind that most products that say they are for hamsters are too small for a syrian! Including houses. Avoid houses with 'windows' as hammies can get their heads stuck in those little round holes which aren't big enough. If the cage comes with a house, check it out for size and round windows - any round windows - chuck it! Any house needs to be open at the bottom onto the substrate really, so they can bury hoards.

These kind of things look good!

And these are very popular - the tunnel bit on the front makes them want to go in I think.

Ooh I do love window shopping for other people lol.

I would like to mention that the Goran does have a larger bar spacing than the Kevin. My mouse did just fine in it, but it was easier for my Syrian to chew the bars on the Goran than the Kevin. Due to the smaller bar spacing, I prefer the Kevin personally.
