ok here's a link to the one I have... you can fix it to the wall or prop it up right next to the smelly cage

Mice will always give off a smell even with the best husbandry, especially to someone who isn`t in the room they are normally kept in and they suddenly walk in. It`s more noticeable to non mouse fans! My hamster (male Russian hybrid) doesn`t cause any smell, yet he only gets spot cleaned!

The only way I got rid of the smell was when all my mice passed on and I didn`t get anymore. Keeping a single dwarf hamster now makes a huge difference to the scent. There isn`t any.

There isn`t any real solution sadly but just doing what you can to reduce the smell, but never se aerosols or pug-in`s near mice or anything that could harm them to keep someone else happy. Just ask them to politely stay out of your room if they don`t like the smell! You are doing all you can. x

I use electric febreeze plug ins. I also spot clean everyday the toilet areas.
My male doesn't smell but, my female can when she's in heat.

Those plug in air fresheners make me wheeze too, so I don't suppose they'd be good for the hams and mice really. Suggest you get some Fitch from here (link below) - online order only. And a peg for your Mum's nose meanwhile lol! Fitch is almost identical to Carefresh - the differences being a) it's cheaper and b) no dust, whereas Carefresh is dusty.

My hamsters aren't bothered by the plugins, I like them and have used them for several years, so they're use to them.

Oh sorry Thin Lizzy! I think most people like them but for some reason they make me wheeze - but you are quite right, that doesn't mean they are a problem for hamsters. I still think the air purifier with hepa and carbon filters sounds good for removing smells - just expensive that's all.

I find they help me relax, crazy eh?
How much do the air purifiers with HEPA cost?

You can get ones for probably 20 £s or ones for 200. They are very good but it is worth the money to get one that is SILENT because they can be very noisy. Don't settle for "quiet" it won't be.

my mum and dad have a posh one of those, it has all these little lights on the front that come on when it's detected stuff in the air. it is like having a creature in your house, it goes mad about orange peel because of the VOC's that are released into the air when you peel an orange, and all it's little lights light up! It gets excited about bacon frying too and keeps up a constant grumbly murmur about paint fumes if there's been any decorating.
