Default Winter White suitable for a Rotastak Maxi Unit?

Please can you advise me,

we have a winter white hamster, cute little thing, she is currently housed in a kidney shaped rotastak house, we have other parts to the house that we havent used as we have been advised she could get out of the bars of the maxi unit that sits ontop. Do you really think this is possible i know she is small but surely not that small.

Many thanks.

Do you mean the round extension units with the ventilation grill..? I wouldn't have thought she could get out no, the bar spacings are 5 mm across. Are you going to put ladders in or she won't be able to get up!

If the bar spacings are 5mm as Haziebaby suggests then she will not be able to get through. I would definitly expand her house a bit now and am sure she would appreciate some extra pods attached. WW may not be able to climb vertical tubes but if you can make it so the connections are horizontal that would be better. Another problem with them can be that once they get up they are reluctant to drop straight down a hole again so it is best to have tubes on a tilt or horizontal. Looking forward to meeting her.

Great, just as i thought will set it up over the weekend. Re the access i will be adding a tube running outside the main cage that is slanted and a vertical one in her cage with a small ladder running up it, do you think she will be able to climb down the vertical ladder. Another question, when we bought her she was pure white. her cage is next to the radiator and she has started to turn grey, quite considerably, now i know this is natural but do you think it is down to the heat from the radiator? Many thanks in advance.

When I got my hamster she was quite small (although a small Syrian !) and a bit scared of the vertical tubes. It took her a while to muster the courage to go up and down but then she was fine. She was very good at using the ladder you just have to be careful they don't unhook. I would watch your ham closely and see how she gets on with going up and down, you don't want her stranded up top. Its all just a confidence thing for them, my babies at 3 weeks happily threw themselves up and down without hesitation or problem but thats kids for you...

i very much doubt that she will go down the vertical ladder (up, yes. down, no.).

Don't worry about the change. The same thing happened when i got a rescue WW hybrid. The change is not caused by the radiator. It has nothing to do with heat, but length of daylight (i.e. more than 8 hours per day)
