Would dwarf setups help? I'm not sure where the photos are of the once or twice we had a syrian in an Alexander but I can definetly find photos of setups we've used for dwarf hams in them

I've used one shelf and one house. I also didn't put the large front piece on the bottom shelf, Pumpkin has made an open nest in the back corner under the small shelf and uses the house as a pantry.

yep i understand now Thankyou for making it clearer, as i said above being new to a hamster owner im prob way over thinking it, but those ladders look good, i ordered a 'normal ladder' but think it will be too big for the hamster maybe better for a bigger animal.

but i have the ladder that came with the setup and will look for the wood steps you have x many thanks again

This is Ebony's Alexander.

She was and still is lol a very naughty girl, she ate a hole in the plastic base within two weeks of having her new home! We made a sort of wooden lining to put inside the plastic base to heed her escape route that's what the blue is that you can see between the base and the shelves
I've used both shelves but have raised and added ramps to the joining bridge part so I could fit a 12inch wonderland wheel under it. I've only used the ramp house, it's on the right hand shelf, I stand her fresh food bowl on top if it and hide nice things for her to find inside it, other than that she never uses it. Bec in here, well her Neptune got stuck in the window of his ramp house, they had to break the house to release him she very kindly warned me about this, so I gave glued a sort of wooden cross inside the window and also covered the inside of it with a piece of polycarbonate so Ebony can't get stuck in hers it's better to be safe
She has a home made house hiding in a corner under a shelf which she nests in and lots of toys hidden down there too

Thankyou Willow, thanks for the heads up that it is possible they can chew their way to freedom, i would never of guessed it would be possible with that base. but maybe i should get some extra wood just incase i need to do a wood lining like yourself.

the ramp is an awesome idea , and poor Bec/neptune with the window ill consider that if/when i put it in ! always better to be safe than hurt our hamsters by accident.

Sounds like i should get into some diy/ playing around with it

Many thanks

I have just repaired an Alexander after Sponge chewed through the base. I used epoxy putty, duck tape, wire and a metal bracket to cover. I am happy that there is a way to repair holes in bases!
