Re: savic and fop cages, opinions?
Hi,
If you look in the 'Cage Reviews' section, there are reviews of both of those cages there. I have never had the first cage, but from the picture I think it looks much too small to house a hamster in. We have the bottom cage which is loads bigger and our Winter White loves it! It's called the FOP Bernie Deluxe (I think) and there is definitely a review of it. I've a feeling that there is also a review of the top cage but I'm not sure what it's actual name is.

Re: savic and fop cages, opinions?
The top cage is a savic spelos and is much too small for even a little robo. I have one and i upgraded shortly after as it was evident it was far too small. They shouldnt even sell these cages. It only came in useful as a hospital cage for one of my robos when he had his leg amputated and needed to rest it.
I have never seen the bottom one personally, so cant really pass judgment, but the Savic Rody, which is similar, is a good cage for dwarves.
Its a shame you had to separate them, but as you have probably seen, its a common occurence!
I'm sure they are lovely on their own though (i love winter whites although I have never kept one)-do you have photos?

do you think the lack of space was a reason for why my hamsters started fighting? (I couldnt afford much really)

The lack of space probably was one of the reasons your hammies had to be split, but even with a huge cage, scatter feeding and 2 of everything many dwarf hammies still have to be split. It just happens sometimes!

Re: savic and fop cages, opinions?
The Bernie deluxe is perfect for a single dwarf. We have the flying house up the way and they love climbing up to sit in there. You can fit a silent spinner in the cage if you want and quite a few toys with imagination (see review). I think the lack of space would plat a part in the splitting but really it just depends on the hammies. Very few single sex pairs stay together. It is just not a natural situation for these animals. We kept two in a huge gabber with two of everything and still had to split the brothers at 4-5 months when they were mature. I am sure he will love the FOP cage. Two spelios together would do a dwarf but one is really too small. I am sure you feel better with them alone and you have done your best for them Lots of love and out playtime soon makes up for lack of space and you can upgarde when you can manage it.

Re: savic and fop cages, opinions?
Hi I am a newbie to both using forums and also having a hamster,
My daughters had hamies when they were younger, but I thought that I might have one, cos there so sweet
I am disabled and work from home and wanted company, so off we go to the pet shop and buy 2 dwarf hamsters,
I wanted something a little different and mine are robos as you are calling them,
They are 7 weeks old or that's what I was told and both male, not sure if this one is true or not, when they were together in the petshop there was loads together and they were happy, all sleeping together and cosy, not sure whats happened as they dont sleep together anymore and dont seem to be all the excited anymore,
I have one of these savic spelos i think thats how we spell it not sure tho, I think that they saw me coming as what I was hoping to do was get one with the tubes in and also add on to this , like i have seen many done like this, but i dont seem to be able to get anything for this type of cage, its a con i think and i think this is why my hamsters are not happy, one sleeps in the tube and the other one in the house
There called bubble and squeak
Please help me find either a second hand cage that someone could find for me or something that i can add to the cage that i have got
thanks

Re: savic and fop cages, opinions?
Personally I would avoid that sort of cage altogether - they are simply too small for any hamster to live comfortably in.
A couple of points - if you added another Savic Spelos to the cage you already have you may cause a fight as the two hamsters may get territorial over the two 'separate' living spaces.
Tubes can also cause fights as one hamster may 'defend' the tubes and get territorial over it.
You *can* add on to your cage as Savic tubes are available to buy separately at Pets At Home and Ferplast hamster tubes also fit them. You can buy both tubes and stoppers on-line.
Having said all that the ideal for a pair of Robo's would be a large, one level cage such as a Zoozone One or Two or a Savic Rody or Savic Rabbit cage. (If you search for either on Google you will find lots of options). You would need to mesh over the lid though as the bar spacing on these is too wide for Robo's. You could keep your current cage for clean-outs etc.
You also need to have at least two wheels as this will help to prevent fighting and don't use a bowl - scatter feed instead.
Hope this gives you some pointers and feel free to ask more questions if you have them.
